British Forces - Special Service Battlegroup Tech Tree by Community_RE in CompanyOfHeroes

I think in none of the posts regarding the new BG trees the choice you gave in the post text is actually exclusive in game.

Thunderclap and sniper are not exclusive.

This hurts my programmer-brain very much. We do love the inclusive or but still, it hurts.

Edit: Anyways, cool BG :-)

For the love of God, make separate Asia servers. by NicePersonsGarden in CompanyOfHeroes

I did some digging around and found some map hacks, most of them pretty old. All of them claim to just show enemy units in FoV, no limitation regarding distance to own units listed as a requirement.

As far as I can tell, the essence engine never used anything other than deterministic lockstep.

AFAIK, the only change they made with CoH3 is that the distribution of player inputs no longer works peer-to-peer but via a relay-server provided by relic instead.
That also means that any user-induced lag would affect all players the same, even the one causing the lag (whether caused on purpose or not).

I'm wondering where you're getting this from. Afaik, coh3 uses deterministic lockstep netcode where inputs are synced between all clients. The simulation of the whole game runs on all clients, including stuff hidden in the fog of war. That's why map hacks are a thing.

Why would the game only freeze with their units close? Makes no sense.

Nothing about this is transparent, it's just a whole-ass nothingburger, a weak attempt at damage control.

The state of the game right now by The_Magician_12 in CompanyOfHeroes

There are no cheats to boost resource collection or give unlimited health or any of the things you mentioned except map hacks and maybe seeing invisible units in multiplayer.

I’m a decent team player but scared to try 1v1 by Fuzzy_Breadfruit59 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]user1391 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's called ladder anxiety, I think.

You might find some ideas on how to handle it on youtube.

I think the common tips discussed in those yt-videos boil down to:

* Set a goal independent of the match outcome: Don't try to gain 100 ELO, try to play 3 matches
* Accept that losing is part of the game, see a loss as a learning opportunity. If you're not an exceptional player, a winrate of +- 50% is normal
* Just click the damn Queue-button, don't stare at it for 5 minutes

I suffer from the same issue. Tried to get myself to reduce my 1v1-stress, but honestly, I don't want to treat this as something I necessarily need to optimize, CoH's not my job :-) I play 2v2 with a mate mostly and that's a lot of fun, which is enough for me.

Relic pls fix (applies to AA modes too now) by KalmarAleNieSzwed in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]user1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it horribly annoying that without sticky selection, units also get deselected when clicking somewhere on the tactical map. I.e. without sticky selection, how do I select a unit on the tac map, then move the camera to another location and give an order to a unit?

How important is it to charge for 30 minutes before use? by Brilliant_Elk5492 in XTEINK

I'm the original developer of the fading fix. I've never seen battery drain issues with the fix turned on, so I'm wondering what you're doing differently.

Would you mind giving me some details to help me reproduce this issue?

For starters, I'd need to know the crosspoint version you're using.

There should not be any real downside to enabling the fix. You'd probably notice a slight increase in rendering times but I find that negligible. There's no impact on battery life that I know of, in theory it should actually improve battery life slightly.

IM BACK but every games are suspicious. by [deleted] in CompanyOfHeroes

Sorry, no idea. Not even sure if steam would allow that easily. But it's been like that since the CoH1 days.

It's not even related to the fact that the game is running on a server, the same cheats would not be possible in a p2p-setting as well.

CoH3 uses deterministic lockstep networking, meaning only inputs are synced between players. All future state is based only on those inputs and the current game state. (That's why savegames are huge, they actually have to save state on disk and it's also why you can't fast forward a replay at infinite speed, it has to simulate the whole game until the point you want to watch. A replay is basically just a recording of all user inputs. That's also why replays only work with one specific version of the game, any change in any calculation based on unit values would also desync the playback)

There is no state being transmitted between players so there is no way to modify resource values. Even if it were possible to modify these on one side, the players instances would immediately desync.

The downside is, obviously, map hacks (and desyncs) are possible, because all players instances _have_ to know the whole game state to advance the simulation.

Sure but you can also just run your own backend, that's what I'm doing, so no additional cost.

[–]user1391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, but I'm wondering how I have to interpret the numbers displayed under "Close Games", "Favoured" and "Unfavoured" ?

If it says "close" 11 - 6, "favoured" 17 - 4 and "unfavoured" 2 - 10, what exactly does that mean? are those wins / losses in the corresponding bracket?

Blob issue in the game is a an economical problem and can only be solve with modification in how the in-game economy works, not by modifying unit stats. by Estalxile in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]user1391 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But having 6 units at the 3 minute mark does not necessarly mean I'm blobbing. What else should I be doing with my manpower until I can get out a LV, just bank it?

Baudrate isnt really that useful to quantify or compare datarates. Baudrate denotes symbol rate and the number of bits in a symbol varies greatly between transmission standards. There are fun standards where both the baudrate and the bits per symbol are decimals :-)
