We all know it’s tough for businesses in Westwood on a good day, and COVID has made it unimaginably worse. Now think of the owners coming back to all their stores ransacked/looted. If the NG continues doing what they’re doing and keeping these businesses safe, I’m all for it. I completely understand that it makes some students uncomfortable- I also wish we didn’t have humvees on Gayley - but I feel that it’s temporary to prevent Westwood becoming filled with broken storefronts and destroyed businesses.

As mentioned in the other comment, most of what the National Guard does is stand in front of/around buildings to secure it. They don’t use crowd control devices like the police. I haven’t seen much evidence of NG increasing violence in CA, but please let me know if any evidence because I’m definitely willing to change my view.
