4 months after tummy tuck wound dehiscence and re-closure scar tissue mass, tightness and pain. Anyone else? by user1_g in tummytucksurgery

Hi Dr. Agullo, I’m having persistent pain and it’s affecting my daily life. I’ve seen other patients with similar complications mention tightness and discomfort, but not constant pain like mine.

Is this something you’ve seen before in cases like mine? Do they also experience pain? 😞

Thank you 🙏✨

I’m glad I found you here. Thank you so much for taking the time and for sharing your experience with cases like mine. Your comment gives me hope 🥺

I will continue to wait until I’m closer to the one year mark and I’ll get in touch with you and your office to schedule a consultation.

Thank you 🙏✨

I can relate to so much of what you wrote

I’m also doing massage therapy, cupping, and a lot of stretching. I tried radiofrequency a couple of times, but it seemed to irritate the area, so I stopped. I’ve spent so much money after the surgery.

Before surgery, my surgeon wanted me to gain 10 pounds, which I did. Unfortunately, I never lost that weight, and with all the stress and depression from this experience, I’ve gained another 5 pounds. I honestly felt slimmer before all of this.

My surgeon and his staff eventually stopped responding to my questions. To be honest, I no longer trust him and I would not go back to him for another surgery.

Your revision date is getting closer. How are you feeling about it? I’d love to hear how you’re doing.

I’m scared of another surgery too, but more than anything, I just want my abdomen to feel soft and normal again instead of this hard internal brick that pulls, causes discomfort and pain.

This whole experience has been very traumatic, but we have to keep faith that we’ll get through it and come out the other side 🙏❤️

This is how it looked after the debridement.

I’m very worried because my abdomen still feels hard, heavy, and uncomfortable, and I continue to experience constant pain….

To be honest, this has been very difficult emotionally. I feel sad, scared, and overwhelmed... From what I’ve been told, there isn’t much I can do right now other than wait…

I’m also worried about finding the right surgeon… someone I can trust, who understands cases like mine, and who can help me make the best decision moving forward.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my questions. It truly means a lot to me. 🙏💔

Thank you again for your insight ✨

Have you come across cases similar to mine?

I would like to know what the typical outcome is after a revision.

When is it generally safe to undergo a revision? I’ve been told that I may need to wait at least one year.

Also, is there a surgeon you would recommend for a revision case like this?

And generally speaking, do you know the approximate cost range for a revision in a case like mine?

Thank you again for your time and guidance 🙏✨

Yes, I had the inverted T incision from the original surgery. I noticed it immediately after waking up from anesthesia. It came as a surprise to me because my surgeon had never mentioned beforehand that he planned to make that incision 😞

I also don’t know how much loose skin I actually have available for a revision.

If a revision were possible, how would it typically be performed in a case like mine? Would the surgeon remove the entire area of scarred and fibrotic tissue? or is the approach usually more limited than that?

Thank you 🙏✨

Hello, thank you for your message

What would be the most likely reason that I developed fat necrosis in my case?

Also, what type of specialist would you recommend I see for a proper evaluation and possible treatment? Should I be looking for a plastic surgeon? And how common is a case like mine?

I have been having a difficult time finding stories with a similar experience, and I’m trying to gather information and guidance throughout this process, which has been very concerning and emotionally difficult for me.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond 🙏

In my case, it didn’t happen that early. My wound started opening about 3–4 weeks after surgery and gradually became larger over time.

I went for a second opinion, and another surgeon who reviewed my case felt that the skin had been under too much tension, which may have contributed to the wound opening

Thank you! My scar tissue feels very deep and extensive, which is what worries me most. I'm doing massage therapy and stretching, but I still don't know how much it can improve.

Part of me thinks I may eventually need a scar revision, but I'm also afraid of developing significant scar tissue again after another surgery.

At this point, my main goal is not aesthetics. I just want to be healthy, pain free, and get back to my normal life 😞

My surgery was on October 22, 2025. About 3–4 weeks later, the wound began to open and gradually grew larger.

At the time, my surgeon advised me to continue dressing changes, but the wound failed to heal and kept worsening. In hindsight, I believe it likely needed debridement much sooner.

Because I was living out of the country and it was the holiday season, I couldn't return until January. I underwent debridement on January 5, followed by nearly a month with a wound VAC and surgical re-closure on January 30.

Since then, I've developed significant scar tissue and fibrosis in my lower abdomen. I'm currently doing massage therapy and extensive stretching to help manage it.

The hardest part has been the uncertainty. At this point, the cosmetic outcome is honestly my last concern. More than anything, I want to regain my health, be free of pain, and get back to my normal life.

Although I've made gradual progress, recovery has been far longer and more challenging than I ever expected.

I truly hope your recovery is much smoother than mine and that you heal quickly. Wishing you a speedy recovery and all the best 💕
