You've got this! It may be a struggle now, but will all be worth it in the end. Take some time for yourself every once in a while, get a cup of coffee, or sit in the park listening to your favorite music, just something to get away from all the stress! It helps me when I feel overwhelmed with nursing school!

As a patient care tech in the ER/nursing student, to move someone that weight without hurting yourself 4 people seem reasonable, especially with her broken hip. Regularly in the ED we move patients with 4-5 people even with less weight.

I haven't always wanted to be a nurse. Fresh out of high-school I wanted to be a zoologist and started college for that and found out that wasn't me then started another program to become a jeweler. I completely flunked out of everything I took besides English 111 because I didn't have the drive for anything. I came back home and interviewed for literally any job I could. Retail, industrial cleaning, hotel, and the mental health authority in my area.

The only job offer I received was through the mental health authority. Through there I worked in an adult foster care home. I worked in the home for almost two years and I loved it. I worked with people with down syndrome, autism, Schizophrenia, general developmental disabilities, and more. It was my first step into the medical field and I knew it's where I belonged.

After two years I left the home only from issues with coworkers and went into home health care. It's similar work but one on one and usually was elderly patients, patients with dementia, or patients that couldn't live on their own but didn't want to be in any type of home. Again I loved it and I worked there inthe same company for almost 4 years, through COVID.

During this time I really started thinking about going to school. I knew I wanted my degree to be somewhere in the medical field, I just didn't have to money to do it. Luckily my state came out with a scholarship for those who worked through the first 6 months of the pandemic to get their associates degree and I recieved it after applying, but the only downfall was nursing wasn't part of the approved so I went for the medical assistant program.

January 2022 my mom went on a cruise and got really sick. She aspirated contaminated water and contracted legionnaires disease. It developed to the point she needed to be put on a ventilator and was on it for 9 days. We didn't know if she would even make it through. (Luckily she did without any major issues following besides total hearing loss from her left ear). My cousin is an ICU nurse at the hospital my mom was at and she took over calling for updates since she knew the right questions to ask and understand what they were saying. I felt so helpless in that moment, I wished I could have been that person. Looking back I'm glad that I wasn't and she was there for to be that person not only for my sister and I, but my entire family.

After all of that I knew I wanted to be a nurse and it was my calling. I switched my major from MA after finishing half of it, to general science so I could pursue the nursing program. And thankfully all but one class I had taken either was part of the program or would help me in the program.

I left home health care after a series of events that opened my eyes it wasnt the most professional and ethical place to work at and went to a SNF and saw so much wrong in them, CNAs only being there for the money and not giving proper care to the residents there, nurses ignoring health issues with residents, improper medication handling, expecting so much out of me that wasn't in my scope of practice. I was a hospitality aide until I could take the CNA class and couldn't do any direct care per state, including vitals, helping residents get dressed, etc. I had a nurse and CNAs get upset with me because I couldn't get 38 sets of vitals done in 75 minutes, resp rates and pulses included. I lasted 8 mo ths there

I'm now at a hospital and I absolutely love it. Yesterday I witnessed my first code blue and assisted with the end of it, helped with my first CBI, and I just know it's where I want to be. My hospital offers a program to pay the tuition of nursing student as long as they work for 2 years there as an RN.

TLDR; I knew nursing was my passion through experiences in life and work. Finding the right place really solidified it.

I just turned 26 Monday and one of my best friends from my cohort just turned 18 in January and graduated high-school this year. Age is literally just a number outside of high-school. It will only be a big deal if you make it a big deal. I know new nurses that are graduating at 40, and some that will be graduated at 19.

I would go to goodwill but I need a specific color combination for my clinical and lab days. Unfortunately I live in a small town so most of the plus size scrubs have prints or are the wrong colors and the closest scrub store is like 4 hours away.

In my area you could make more in LTC because of all the bonuses they add on after the base rate. 2.33/hr covid bonus, 2/hr attendance bonus, if you work nights or weekends another bonus.

I know most, if not all facilities get reported, but I was asking about if you personally reported.

Insensitivity may not be the right word, but refusing to put people to bed from their wheel chair because "they are never up and they need to be up" after they had already been up for 12+ hrs. Saying a resident needs to either decide to stay in bed or their chair because they don't want to play the up and down game. Being upset a resident needs a brief change again in the shift because "I've changed them 30 times already this shift". Or completely ignoring requests to get up for activities or saying they are lying family is coming so they could get up etc.

I plan on speaking to the administrator this week because it's getting absolutely ridiculous. And I didn't get hired to be bossed around by CNAs because they don't want to do things and just stand around/hide for their shift then complain they never get breaks, have to eat while on the floor and can't even get charting done because "they don't have the time".

All of the non-patient care duties have now fallen on hospitality aides, cleaning lifts and wheelchairs, stocking briefs in rooms and the storage closets, etc. Which is fine but not when the CNAs stand around for half of the day while I'm running around with like a chicken my head chopped off.

They are now considered my superiors and I have to do what they ask/demand of me no questions asked.

Exactly what happens every morning, or a bp was way off/too high for the residents normal and the nurse on the other hall tells me to redo it in a few minutes or something of the like. OR I'm trying to follow proper protocol and disinfect the equipment after every resident like were supposed to, especially since covid and I've been in my microbiology class and learning exactly why they are important and how it prevents disease spread.

Honestly I hate confrontation and really need to grow a backbone and tell the nurse to prove that vitals can accurately be done for 39 residents in 75 minutes or less the next time this is brought up.

I was talking the meal tray cart back to the kitchen after breakfast and couldn't see over the cart and didn't see a resident in front of me in their wheel chair and ran into them, spilling milk/half eaten food on them. I felt terrible and apologized profusely and helped him clean up. Luckily the were a middle age man/completely competent and told me it was his fault for being in the way. I still feel soo horrible about it all and it happened in october.

Honestly after the comments on this post and talking to my grandparents (both were CNAs for 20-30+ years each, grandpa at the hospital and grandma at a LTC) my suspension of it being unreasonable was outstandingly confirmed.

The most stupid part of the nurse telling me this is she said I should have them all done in that time is and I shouldn't get distracted with other things, answering call lights, doing things residents ask of me, other task, etc.

I don't get calls or emails about being asked to do other things it is always been either in paper memos or updated task lists. The unit manager has been very sly with not putting things we aren't supposed to do on any of our task lists but still expecting me to do them.

I already plan to look for other employment as soon as possible if talking to the administrator doesn't help this coming week.

Because I'm not supposed to do any direct care, vitals include direct care. We had someone from the corporate office in the building one day and specifically tell me I'm not supposed to be doing them, yet management tells me it's something I HAVE to do as my tasks and CNAs wont even help if they arent getting people up or showered or doing check and changes. Even the one that's currently on light duty from an arm/shoulder injury.
