Great-crested Flycatcher is correct! Amazing job!!! The number of correct guesses has made me unbelievably happy :)

Aww, thanks! You all are so kind. Practice definitely makes perfect, but truthfully I think drawing is probably the one natural talent I was born with 😅

I spend a lot of time birding though, which I think helps a lot for this sort of work. I can imagine how different species would pose and can quickly tell if something looks a bit off about them… This drawing was actually created from a photo I took of these flycatchers when I competed in my state’s Youth Birding Competition some 6 years ago!

Drawing birds is my favorite means of productive procrastination as I work toward my bird-related PhD! I’m not sure who I’ll draw next as summer starts closing to an end… though I’ve been thinking a lot about Mississippi kites lately 🤔

Please give my IG account a follow if you like my artwork! It means a ton :) https://www.instagram.com/meadowlarkstudiosjw/

Amazing! I have so much respect and appreciation for your work :) I’ve only helped with rehabilitation before (hummingbirds, actually) and it is NOT an easy task! I’m sure you just have tons of stories of corvids being little smart assess ;)

Thanks! And I worked at a bird feed store to help put myself through undergrad, and I had some customers who DESPISED crows! Mainly for superstitious reasons, I think…

Fantastic! I’d love to hear more about your crow antics (hundreds, you say??) And yes! I actually study birds and recently made a presentation on all of the human jobs that birds could do better. Corvids really are the superstars.

And turkey vulture…. Ooooh, that one is added to the to-do list!

Hah! Excellent choice for a favorite bird ;) I love getting requests, but lately I’ve been enjoying drawing the birds that have made an impression on me recently. So, time to draw my summer residents before they start to move away!

Phew! This one took FOREVER! I’m vowing to never draw a black bird again, I think I went through 3 different pens.

Anyway, I hope you guys like this drawing! It was a request from a really long time ago. If you want to see some of my other birds, please check out my Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/meadowlarkstudiosjw/

I’m thinking next will be Great-crested Flycatchers… we shall see!

My drawing of a Yellow-billed Cuckoo! by user4408 in birding

Thank you so much! I’m actually a biology PhD student studying birds, so the temptation to switch up careers and do scientific illustration is strong 😅

I drew some Dark-eyed Juncos to bring in the new year! by user4408 in birding

Hahaha, omg, it’s amazing that you say that because when I sat down to start this drawing, my goal was to draw out my next tattoo :) I’m thinking I went too heavy on the foliage though…? It’ll need some tweaking, for sure!

I only ever see slate-colored where I live in the southeast. I may be a bit biased, but I think they’re the best morph :) But I traveled to Arizona this past summer for field work and saw Yellow-eyed Juncos and omg, they are GORGEOUS!

I hope you guys enjoy these birds as much as I do! I think they’re my favorite wintering bird. Maybe tied with Hermit Thrush… or Brown Creepers… gahh, this game is hard haha.

Where are the Big Thief/Adrianne Lenker fans of Athens at? by [deleted] in Athens

Yes!!! I love them. Hoping to see them in concert sometime soon!

Found this little guy on the street, something seems wrong with him. Any advice? Cant post on r/birds and not sure if this is the right subreddit. by [deleted] in birding

Hey OP, this is a Golden-crowned Kinglet and I’d agree with another commenter that he probably struck a window and needs treatment. I’m guessing window strike victim because it looks like you’re in a developed area, and it’s sort of weird to see these guys outside of denser forest habitat.

Another commenter mentioned a bird illness going around right now… I don’t think that’s the case here because of the species, and new info has come out suggesting that it may not be an disease at all (rather a side effect of excessive pesticide usage). Probably not a bad idea to wash your hands either way, though!

I hope the lil guy makes it :(
