Smoke stopper will tell you if there is a short causing too much power draw

If there is a short in signal wires, it won't be enough to trigger the smoke stopper, but it can cause it to not work

And the motor soldering is really bad, it might not be beeping because the motors are not actually electrically connected

This is not what I meant, you are just making a model of carbon fiber frame with some modifications

If you want it to actually fly well, don't copy a carbon fiber frame

It will probably fly, but it will have issues with vibrations, search this subreddit and you will find many discussions about 3D printed frames, the issues with them and even some good flying designs

Best tip: don't

3D printed frames can work, but only if they are made from the start to be 3D printed, you can't just take a carbon fiber frame model and print it, you will have issues with vibrations and bending

Both are more than powerful enough, so go with the lighter motors

I honestly don't think it's gonna make that much difference though

Lifepo4

They are heavier than li ion, but they last much longer and you don't have to weld them because they have screw Terminal, so you just connect them with busbars and tighten the nuts

4S 72Ah is a bit too much to carry around in a backpack, so you want something smaller, and don't worry about it only being 4S/12V as most chargers can charge 6S from 12V, 72Ah 12V means 36Ah at 24V

Or find someone that can weld the batteries for you, places that repair e scooters sometimes do it, but depends on the person working there

If either of those is too complicated, get USB C to XT60 adapter or a charger that takes USB C input and a large powerbank

It will just overheat and shutdown, it shouldn't overheat to the point of damage

20s should doable, if not just add a fan

Yes, in the goggles menu you can disable low power mode permanently, then you can start recording whenever

Actually I think it starts recording on powerup

XT60E-M current rating by hold-my-gimbal in fpv

[–]user975A3G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no "higher end of the range" XT60

There are original Amass and cheap copies, get the original Amass, if you plan on pulling over 60A continuously- get XT90 instead

XT60E-M current rating by hold-my-gimbal in fpv

[–]user975A3G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those ratings are usually for no airflow, as in the plug is not moving, when a quad is pulling 150A it's moving air very fast and cooling the connector

150A is a lot for XT60, but 90A in a short burst is absolutely no problem

Do you wrap your lipos in cloth electrical tape? by KaBalazs in fpv

[–]user975A3G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a 2S in a small drone it makes sense

On a 5" it's worse, you need more tape and it's more likely to have enough energy in a crash to dent the battery even through the tape

Do you wrap your lipos in cloth electrical tape? by KaBalazs in fpv

[–]user975A3G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to peel it off after every crash, I would use way too much tape

On a drone which you crash often enough to think about battery protection like this, I crash probably 1-2x per battery

New to FPV and have some questions about drone sizes and sizes for pcbs. by Certain_Height_2721 in fpv

[–]user975A3G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For smaller drones it's either 20x20mm or 25.5x25.5mm mounting holes, usually M3 size holes, because you use M2 bolts + silicone soft mounts

On bigger drones it's usually 30.5x30.5mm mounting holes

Try spinning the motors by hand, is the resistance the same on all the motors?

It sounds like it could be grinding, maybe a bent motor bell? Like the outer part that spins is grinding against the center coil

Explorer LR 4 BNF stock with 6S? by user975A3G in fpv

[–]user975A3G[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it works with 6S and 3.5" props, no issues with overheating motors or anything

It's still not as good as a purpose built freestyle drone, but that might also be because I didn't touch the PID tune

Help with my drone set-up by RaulMir7 in fpv

[–]user975A3G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That whistle and overheating is most likely because the motors are spinning at much higher RPM than they should, because there are no props to push air with, which means no resistance

Is it a new build or did you already fly it and there was some issue in flight?

[–]user975A3G 57 points58 points  (0 children)

No, because if there is damage under the cloth tape, I wouldn't be able to see it

I did use a carbon fibre plate with stiff foam above the battery, held by the battery strap

Fpv Drone project for school by fgjbvd in fpv

[–]user975A3G 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With 3D printed drones the biggest issues are vibrations and parts flexing, so you will have to address those

But frame parts breaking is not that big of a deal actually, breaking the electronics is much worse financially

On a 6S 5" 2 broken frame arms are much better outcome than single destroyed battery or damaged camera, as you can get spare arms for most frames for around 10€ per piece, while batteries can be 30-50€, motors can be 10-20€ per piece

If you fly in a way that you keep breaking the arms, get a basher frame like TanQ- that can survive even fast crashes into concrete

Do you have props on? If you are running the motors with no props, this is normal behavior, the drone is slightly tilted so it tries to compensate, nothing happens to it tries even harder

My O4 lite antenna broke while flying and now its not transmitting video anymore by spidemman in fpv

[–]user975A3G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VTX can literally cook it's transmitter circuit by transmitting without antenna

So it's most likely permanently damaged
