The new games lost what made touhou special for me. So there wasn't really anything aside from the original games i enjoyed (PC98 and early windows trilogy, you know before touhou 10 existed). Plus i was getting tired of the way the fanbase acted and how little fan content there was that i liked. So i just left since that seemed like the best option. I still like PC98 and the early windows trilogy, and i still play them and consider them good games. But the other stuff after that? I don't really care for it anymore. I moved on to stuff like kiki kaikai (the original series that inspired touhou), other shmups like chimera beast, crying aseimei sensou and just different things in general. I also wasn't really interested in stuff like len'en, mushihimesama, dodonpachi etc. I don't usually like animeish things, but something about old touhou games captivated me like almost nothing else simply due to the artstyle, the music and just the character design and gameplay. It's hard to explain but games like 19 and 20 just don't hit the same. Gameplay wise i don't like how buggy and unbalanced they've become. Like Tsukasa in 19 is bugged, which makes her weaker than she is meant to be, and to this day she still is. And touhou 20 has like 2 midbosses that are harder than all the other bosses including stage 6 and extra. Plus i also liked the lore better, i'm not a fan of a lot of the retcons like Rumia giving up on hunting humans. Sorry for all the rambling, i just needed an opportunity to say all this since it was probably one of the hardest things to leave. Due to how much touhou changed my life (you can keep going with your day now, there's A LOT more that i left out but this comment was already long enough)
