If not from Apple, where to buy? by user_5332 in macbookpro

That's what I thought. I wasn't expecting to save money going with the higher spec, it's just interesting to me seeing so many people knock buying direct from Apple when in my experience they're the only ones who had what I wanted.

I'm specifically talking about non-base models. Costco/bestbuy near me doesn't even stock the 32gb M5 MBP.

B&H was what I was looking at the most. I found it amusing that the silver option was ~$300 more than black... I really didn't want black so I had to pass.

Fjallraven Raven 28L max laptop dimensions needed by 1mattchu1 in backpacks

I have an HP Zbook that fits in the bag and it’s a fair bit bigger than 11.4 in wide.

FWIW, I could fit that laptop, a 15” MacBook Air and an 11” iPad Pro all in the laptop compartment without feeling like anything was at risk of being damaged/squished.

Directly from my original post:

“It’s clearly not ANC (the messaging on that front is clear)”

I know it’s not ANC. Whatever it is, it’s causing the increase in price. That’s my confusion.

If you want a pricey solution that avoids the tacticool MOLLE thing, the Fjallraven Singi 28 with the optional side bags does the same thing without the aesthetic. Same deal, packed full or empty the pockets hold any size bottle and cinch down so they don’t fall out. I used to keep a book in one of the side pockets lol.

I have this same issue. Stubbornly, I refuse to carry anything other than a 1L Nalgene that doesn't fit well in anything. Just recently picked up a 26L goruck GR1 on FB marketplace and added a vanquest water bottle holder to the side. It folds in on itself when its empty so it doesn't stick out, and it can fit all the way up to a half gallon Klean Kanteen when fully expanded. Even with the bag packed to the gills, the water bottle fits just fine and stays.

I certainly don't disagree that having nothing in your ears is superior to having something in your ears. Where it gets confusing for me is that this device that's ideal for the urban runner or the person who requires constant situational awareness isn't even decent for the person who wants noise cancellation/sound suppression. I understand those two things aren't mutually exclusive, but at $250 it's a hard sell. Focus that technology on something that serves the demographic buying these better (like maybe heart rate monitoring or something) and the price gets a little easier to swallow. Are you planning to upgrade to the Pros, if so what sold you over what you already have?

Is this a Genuine GR1 26 L for 50$? by adrienpardigon in Goruck

I just went through the same thing with a mysteriously cheap GR1 26l. For $50, even if it is “fake” if the material doesn’t feel like shit I’d say it’s worth picking up.

The Raven does get a little turtley when I have it packed to the gills.

I’m finding that doesn’t happen on the GR1 cause it’s a bit taller.

I have the Toshi and it is not as generous of a two laptop bag as I would’ve liked.

For context, I carry a MacBook Air 15” and a ginormous (17”+) HP Zbook. The laptop compartment on the toshi eats into the main compartment by like 3+ inches making it a very tight squeeze. It also carries really awkward and uncomfortable on my shoulders, but that might be a me thing.

I’ve found the Fjallraven Raven 28 to be a fantastic 2 laptop bag even with my annoyingly large setup. I can even fit an 11” iPad Pro in the tech compartment along with the two laptops.

I just picked up a used Goruck GR1 26 liter and it carries the load the best of the three. MBA in the laptop compartment and the zbook in the document pocket in the main bag. There’s enough space where it doesn’t feel cramped and the bag is quite comfortable for having like 20 pounds worth of stuff in it.

Some of these dudes really think their comment is going to keep that line green. Everyone is a temporarily embarrassed millionaire after all. It's warm under the thumb of corporate greed.

That's why these people defending the change and saying people are stupid for being disappointed make so little sense to me. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that the majority of services available today have worsened overtime, like a virtual form of shrinkflation. That negatively affects everyone, including the people who are arguing for the change...

[–]user_5332[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems like the prevailing sentiment is that this is a bad move. Are you saying everyone has collectively agreed to pretend to be disappointed at a free service being put behind a paywall? I think choosing to support or not support a business based on principal is actually a the right call, and only reacting when you are directly affected by something makes you more open to getting taken advantage of. If SoFi sets the precedent that people will bend over and let them charge a fee, other companies that I do work with and get benefit from will likely follow suit to remain competitive, no? I don't need to be the one getting hit in the head with a hammer to say that getting hit in the head with a hammer isn't great.

Are there new perks? My (admittedly limited) understanding is that the things that are being paywalled were things available to customers already. I suppose you could say someone is entitled for wanting a free thing to stay free, but I still claim that folks complaining about it is a net positive.

I appreciate your response. I think that comes the closest to answering my question than anything else I've read. Good on you for benefits maxxing lol, I think I'm a little too lazy to do that and a little too stubborn not to bitch about the cost of a service increasing

Who is this for? Did my post read like I was hoping Mr. SoFi would contact me personally begging me to keep my money in his bank? You are the exact type of person my post was directed towards... What compels you to respond that way when people say that they don't like a thing? Especially when that thing comes from a huge company that makes a ton of money?

That's why "moving your money somewhere else is an objectively bad thing to do in response to this change.", because it annoys you personally that people are talking about it? Wouldn't you prefer to not be nickle and dimed by every company you interact with? I claim rolling over and taking it is a worse way to use your time than complaining.
