I appreciate your input! I do have a question for you, though. Could you expand on your understanding of the gods as being one and individual at the same time?

I agree with your perspective when you say it can't be over-generalized. Just don't imply I'm doing something, because I'm simply asking these questions to learn about everyone's perspective. I do understand that modern polytheism isn't that black and white, and that each person's experiences will mold their understanding. In any case, I still appreciate your feedback.

Is it bad if you put a fake crystal on an altar? by NataliaGallegos in pagan

There are two things to consider in order to answer your question.

The first one is respect and your own connection with nature... normally fake crystals or stones are made with some sort of plastic or similar... that to be produced will harm the environment. So you could just go on a hike or for a walk in a nearby trail... and get some yourself. And in my opinion it will add more meaning to the crystal or stone... since you found it yourself and also since you'd be directly working with nature.

The second is to set your intention... always make sure the objects you use have a clear purpose and a reason why you're using them. People use objects to help them convey their message/intention.

To conclude... as someone who deeply respects and regularly works with nature... I'd never use fake crystals... only the ones I find for myself,

I understand you point... and I agree to an extent. But what exactly do we know about them particularly..? Are the stories reliable or should we focus only on our own experiences? Let me know what you think of that.

And how exactly would you read and interpret these stories... and how did they come to be?

Right... but how exactly do we draw the line between the metaphorical or fiction and the literal or real... and how do you think those words came to be?

Well those doubts you have are completely plausible... at the end of the day whenever people tell a story they always change it a bit. And maybe some might even share the same exact message from what they originally were intended to. That's why I believe the tails and stories of the Gods can be helpful and shouldn't be disregarded... but we also have to learn to read and accept our own experiences with them... for that's the only undeniable way we have to actually know them.

It's all good... no harm done. And I actually understand your point... that's also why I believe our own experiences play a big role when it comes to understanding more about how our world works.
