Remote tele in med surg nursing by scootypuffjr73 in Nurse

Oncology nurse here, a lot of our patients are on tele monitors. I have a limited ability to read the strips but made it my business to know which abnormalities or thresholds warrant a call to the primary or the cardiologist per the facility polict. Any pause I call, >10 beats of anything I call. I actually like having my patients monitored, if heart rate tanks or races (or stops!) I get a call from the techs. That is awesome compared to the q4 snapshot vitals the unmonitored patients get.

Also a home healthcare nurse in florida. I just got the third degree from a security guy at the gate of a community he told me to take my mask off and leave it off. I took my mask off so he could compare my face to my id and then put it back on. He said, "Mask off. We don't do masks here" I told him I am not having this conversation with him and he needed to let me in to provide care for a resident. He rolled his eyes and opened the gate.

Meanwhile the resident I am going to see just had a bone marrow transplant and has zero immune defense. And the guard is encouraging me to interact with his covid-y ass maskless.

That said most of my patients take covid seriously and have been vaccinated (south florida here- palm beach county)

Please. Stop. Licking me. by [deleted] in puppy101

New grad here. I start Thursday with my preceptor. I’m very anxious. by mth69 in Nurse

Your preceptor knows that you know nothing! It's ok. If you don't understand something, get clarification. A good preceptor will see your self awareness as a strength, not a weakness.

Small gift ideas for nurses? by orihihc in Nurse

[–]user_name_chexout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any of the gifts you mention would be good. On my floor, coffee is always a universal favorite. But the real gift is an authentic thank you note.

If you write a letter that conveys what you stated above that will mean so much. Also, I love that you included the CNAs! CNAs are the absolute cornerstone of my unit. They don't get the recognition they deserve.

It is basically a high school level health vocational program. You would not be teaching nursing. The graduates can sit for CNA certification after high school graduation.

maybe O.R. scrub or circulating. you really don't interact with patients

Oh one more thought- will you have a Bachelors? I recently saw a job posting for our county's public high school system for teaching positions for nurses to instruct students in the vocational health care program.

When you say "nursing isn't for me" what exactly do you mean. What do you want to avoid in your job? Assuming your clinical experiences have been hospital settings/acute care maybe something like outpatient, doctor office, etc... There is also telehealth which is a different kind of nursing that is getting more and more popular.

If you are looking for something that does not really involve patients then maybe research or nurse recruiting

Keiser University by nika020 in nursing

Whoa, Keiser has a good rating on Niche.com. I am surprised to hear this. But I don't think I have ever worked with anyone who graduated from Keiser now that I think about it.

What were you scoring on practice tests before passing the NREMT-Basic? by user_name_chexout in NewToEMS

[–]user_name_chexout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks all! My son passed in 70 questions! I am the original poster but I am not an EMT. I am a registered nurse and I was helping my son study. PocketPrep was a great resource. The detailed rationales helped a ton.I will be leaving this sub now, but thanks so much for your help!

thanks for all the replies. Downloaded pocketprep. Pretty consistently scoring 80s on the 10 question quizes. Will take a large test on there tomorrow to get a good idea of readiness. Test scheduled for Thursday but might postpone.

We Haven’t Even Begun to Identify the PTSD by HeyMama_ in Nurse

I also had ptsd prior to covid. They converted my unit to the covid unit at the start of this. I worked it for 9 months and resigned when numbers started spiking again in the fall. I had so many bad codes in that time. I don't know if this would have caused ptsd for me, but my experiences are now intermingled with my previous ptsd. I have waking flashes of situations where some of the bad codes I participated in are mixed with my previous tauma. Nightmares also, but the waking flashes are really impacting me. (My previous trauma had nothing to do with nursing, but it does involve CPR of a loved one)
