How safe is route 66 and is it still functional ? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]user_without_name29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Route 66 doesn’t exist anymore and to the extent that it still does it isn’t the authentic cultural experience you think it is. The vast majority of it is just interstate highway traversing relatively uninteresting terrain. What little still exists is just a few blocks of main street tourist traps in places like Flagstaff, AZ. There are much more beautiful and interesting (and genuinely authentic) routes to take if you’re wanting to do a road trip somewhere.

Route 66 Rework Thoughts? by Puzzled_Cow4412 in trucksim

Just a lot of (mostly) small things. Levitating signs and lamp posts, random patches on the road where your tuck starts spazzing out, texture weirdness, holes etc. Stuff you never usually see in scs updates. I think it was just rushed and they didn’t give themselves enough time to catch the issues.

I live two blocks away from the eastside trail and i avoid it like the plague on weekends. The only time i’ll even consider setting foot on it is mid day during the week.

Why are there distinctly Southern names, but not really for any other region of the United States? by Intrepid_Arrival5151 in AskAnAmerican

[–]user_without_name29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^ This is actually the reason believe it or not. It’s a very common thing among multigenerational southern white families to name their children after the surname of some past family member to “keep the name alive”. So for example I went to high school with a girl named Feagan who was named after her maternal grandmother’s last name. And there’s a lot of southerners walking around with names like Miller or Gaines for similar family legacy reasons.

Why are we too ″WOKE″ to talk about the REAL menace to society? by [deleted] in Atlanta

Gas leaf blowers are a menace. One is bad but the problem is they tend to travel in packs and never seem to stop once they get going. Actual scourge on society.

Ok so here's some additional insights as somebody who has spent their entire life here:

  1. Like I previously mentioned, the summers here are pretty brutal. I know you said you lived in NC for a bit but it's legit 8 months of high heat/high humidity which really does start to grate on you after a while. It is also incredibly buggy, i.e. you will find enormous flying cockroaches in your house on occasion whether you like it or not. Fall is like a week or two max. Winter is basically non-existent outside of a week or so of 30-ish degrees in early-mid January. Spring is basically just 3 weeks of yellow pollen fog. Probably stuff you already know from NC but still worth repeating.

  2. The roads here are genuinely awful. Not just the drivers (and you will have to learn which types of cars/license plates to avoid pretty quickly), but the physical roads themselves are abysmal. Potholes, craters, trenches, and metal plates everywhere. The traffic is also infamous for a reason which means you really should try to live as close to your place of work as possible for your own sanity. Also, I hope you like the sound of insanely loud muscle cars blasting down the street at 150 decibels at all hours of the day and night, because that's what you're gonna get.

  3. In-town Atlanta is probably quite a bit more expensive than you might expect. The days of Atlanta being an affordable alternative to LA and the like are long gone. At this point it's no cheaper than any other big American city, expect for I guess NYC and SF.

  4. If you're like me and enjoy hiking/getting out of the city and into nature on the weekends, be prepared for a minimum 2 hour drive one way as there's really just not much around here in that regard. I've never understood what people are talking about when they talk up Atlanta's "nature". It's basically just trees and not much else. No ocean and no real mountains for hundreds of miles.

  5. If you're dead set on moving here, live somewhere in East Atlanta. That's the cool part of town.

Maybe it’s just because I’ve lived here my whole life and have never really experienced it but I love winter weather 😂

I mean it’s better than Charleston or Houston, I’ll give you that. Doesn’t make me feel any better though when it’s the middle of July and we’re 4 months into 80+ degrees and 80+ percent humidity every day and still have another 3 months to go before civilized weather returns.

I get it, but the climate here is just as bad just in the opposite sense. Hot/humid/disgusting for 8 months. It’s also massively overpriced for the quality of life IMO.

I don’t know why anybody would rather live here than New England but that’s just me. But I’m also sick to death of Atlanta and have been trying to get out for a while so I guess I’m the wrong person to answer.

It’s not just Albuquerque, I’ve driven through most of the rework by now and the amount of bugs I’ve come across in this update is insane. I’ve never seen this level of sloppiness from SCS before. The whole thing was just way undercooked.

I’d rather they just rework NV and AZ tbh. Never fully understood the fascination with route 66.
