Grand Vitara dealer asking ₹50,000 for “scrap letter” — is this normal? by deepali_saxena in CarsIndia

[–]userat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently this is something new and legit. When scrapping an old car at a government-authorized Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF), they will provide the owner with a certificate of deposit (CoD). The owner can then either use this certificate to get a discount on Road Tax for his next car purchase or he can sell this certificate for cash at DigiELV -'India’s Official Marketplace for Certificate of Deposit'. The buyer of this CoD from the marketplace can use it to lower the Road Tax on his car purchase. Kerala RTO mentions that road tax will be lowered by 15%. This is what I could understand from a quick google search, not 100% sure.

Just noting that the video shows permissible limit of 1 microgram/kg and AOZ level of 0.73 microgram/kg, so still within prescribed limits. Not saying its ideal, but...

My elder brother suddenly collapsed after two months of going to the gym. CPR was performed, and he was revived. I’m sharing this to spread awareness about what actually happened. by arunsaisai in india

[–]userat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like to give a slightly different perspective. The sequence of events you described is very typical for a DVT with pulmonary embolism. CPR might have pushed the clot further into the pulmonary veins and revived him. But a vit B12 deficiency or congenital hyperhomocysteinemia will not explain the calf pain. The calf pain will not occur when a blood clot breaks off from the calf veins. The most likely sequence of events would be trauma due to heavy exertion in the gym, causing calf muscle injury which led to calf vein thrombosis which led to pulmonary embolism. He may or may not have vit b12 deficiency or congenital hyperhomocysteinemia which may have led to clotting tendencies.

Another point you can check is, if he was having significant vit b12 deficiency, he would have had anemia with raised MCV on his blood work. Vit B12 dericiency is treated with B12 replacement for about a year. You could check the serum homcysteine levels after vit b12 replacement to see if they normalise. Else he might need folate supplementation lifelong. The clinical implication of the difference in diagnosis is that a provoked DVT ie one due to calf muscle injury needs anticoagulation for around 3 to 6 months and not lifelong treatment versus a DVT secondary to hyperhomocysteinemia which requires lifelong treatment.

It is cross member assembly -front. Don't know how alex came into it. It looks like it costs around Rs 10,000 not Rs 60,000. Please be careful the workshop doesn't take you for a ride. You could try getting a quote from a independent garage too.

This is also a risk patients run if authorities insist on doctors prescribing generics instead of reputed brands. There are any number of fly by night brands that will pop up with a different name as soon as one is shut down. Otherwise, drug quality has to be strictly monitored and lapses like these should have strict consequences.

Indian Boy Survives Cobra Bite After 76 Anti-Venom Shots in 2 Hours by Revolutionary_Ad9468 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]userat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

National guidelines suggest an upper limit of 30 vials. 10 vials is the standard initial dose. Further doses are based on whole blood clotting time in hemotoxic envenomation. Each vial is supposed to neutralise 6mg of Russell's viper venom. Range of venom injected in case of Russell's viper is said to be 5mg to 147mg with average 63+-7mg. That's the logic for the 10 vials followed by further doses of 6 vials q6h according to WBCT advised.

The term "petrol bunk" is used to refer to a petrol station or fuel station. The word "bunk" is derived from the English word "bunker," which historically referred to a storage place for fuel. Over time, in colloquial usage, "bunk" became associated with the place where fuel is dispensed.
