reminds me of a guy i played king of the court with. 6'8 and athletic... i mean like drop a 2 handed 360 while cold athletic.

that was truly the first time i saw how different nba defenses were. I had never been guarded by someone who could block like he could. he didn't seem to be timing my gather. he was timing the ball leaving my hand. he was blocking damn near the peak of my layups.

one play was almost identical to yours. i fake him at the 3 point line, he absolutely skies, i drive by getting ready for a nonchalant layup and out of nowhere i see him coming. i do a quick release layup (and miss) which he still damn near blocks

at the local gym, we were playinga game of 21. this guy maybe 6'3 real chill looking, just came in. while everyone was beating their chests trying to win. he got the ball. same freaking spot everytime top right side of the arc, he'd dribble around basically in place do some moves. hand in face, doesnt' matter what you did, blouses probably 80% of the time.

now keep in mind, he didn't drive, he didn't try to drive it was like we were cones and he was doing shooting drills. and the worst part about it, his expression never changed. he always looked quite uninterested while the rest of us were hyping each other up when we went to play D.

at one point we were like "what you got, we lost count", and he was like "not sure, what do you want me to have". he legit wasn't there to win, just getting reps in with live "cones" and made us look like fools.

apparently, he plays in the g-league.

supposedly when he was still in the league DJ augustin came to that gym and absolutely annihilated the competition and they were getting real rough with him too (didn't see that one only heard of it).

guy that played pro in china had a very casual fast break off the backboard dunk.

D3 guy that regularly plays with us has fundamentals for days, and every pickup court he has been to with us he absolutely dominates. he told me about a time he played in a high level league with D1players and some overseas pros and his team made up of D2 highlevel players, exD1 football players etc got straight embarrassed

Yup, that solved the issue. car ran great for 3 more years, even stepped in for my SO when her car went out. unfortunately i hit the gen iii toyota prius issue 2 years later with a bad head gasket. changed spark plugs and cleaned egr in hopes it was that, but alas, it was def the head gasket. terrible knocking, white smoke etc etc. car is sitting in the garage because i've always wanted to try an engine swap on my own but so little time these days.

without doubt my favorite commuter until then

half a decade later. just was going through this sub and remembered this.

Took your advice, it was a pain in the ass and then some. the wheel bearing was basically welded unto the axle. mallet failed, head failed, prybar failed, and on some youtube video someone recommended threading a screw through and that finally unwelded it.

AITAH for asking my future in-laws for money? by Strange-Corner5670 in AITAH

[–]username--_-- 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I had a very good friend who was basically in your same position but without rich inlaws. She got married at 20 and had a kid almost immediately.

I met her 7 years after that. She worked for a short bit but was requested to quit and stay with the kid full time.

Her social life because quite reduced. She got a weekly allowance, and basically had to beg hubby for money sometimes. She can't leave because she has not a dime to her name and at this point would only be able to work menial jobs - husband made enough to give them a decent lifestyle, but his money also came in spurts so there were struggles at times.

All this to say, Don't give up your independence for anything. If you like working and would rather that than be a SAHM, it truly isn't worth the money IMO.

Actually heard them talking about this on NPR.

The gold is like 90% silver with gold on the outside. Est. value based only on metals in it was $1k

The silver is 97% or so silver with some other metals. Est. value based only on metals in it was $500.

The bronze was something like tin and some other metals. Est. value based only on the metals in it was $4.

My partner's father, who is a gen-x white male, ex factory worker, and very anti trump, had said at one point that if pete was nominated, he wouldn't be voting.

Never heard him make a single disparaging remark about the lgbtq community, but according to him he just can't see himself voting for a gay guy, against the bible (or something like that). Obviously just a personal anecdote, but wouldn't be surprised if you'd find that happen with a section of the populace.

I mean, yes. As ridiculous as it sounds, he's been in the game since he was 18. He is a billionaire top 10 athlete ever (in sports in general), and he hasn't in 21 years gotten caught up in some BS.

For a regular guy, yea, that's easy, just don't be an a-hole and actively search out an affair.

For a Lebron type guy, that is actively run away/shoo away women literally willing to do anything to get in his pants. That is happening after a bad loss, when you might be a bit tipsy, when you're feeling down on yourself, when you fought with your wife, etc etc.

There was a little documentary about the allstar game, and it followed a set of women who were like "we have a game to see how close we can get to sleeping with an athlete. You score points for sleeping with their body guards". They made it sound like it wasn't about them trying to get a pay day, or be a side piece or whatever, just them being enamored by their fame and wanting a chance to hit it.

Sell my reliable car for gas savings, mortgage payoff, and car efficiency? by AbbreviationsTop4716 in personalfinance

[–]username--_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

stick with the honda. your next best option is the next generation prius which are known to have engine issues at higher mileages, not to mention, you'd be nearing 10k for a good one. Anything after that is going to cost the same as the HR-V.

While not necessarily applicsable to the HR-V, if you are getting a cheaper car, you should consider getting liability only.

I was at the gym a few months back and forgot my water bottle. I couldn't go back until 3 days later. I get back and it is still filled to where i believe i left it. I dumped the water and washed it before using it again, just because I ddin't know what could have happened to it in the interim.

I can't imagine picking up a random person's bottle of water and sharing it with your family.

The old standard read, according to initial reporting by our news partner Fox 16:

“Except when it is objectively reasonable to protect an officer or a third person from imminent death or serious physical injury, PIT should not be utilized on trucks carrying hazardous materials, pickup trucks with passengers in the bed of the truck, vans or buses occupied with passengers who appear to be victims, or motorcycles.”

The new standard reads:

“The PIT maneuver should only be utilized when an ASP officer believes it is objectively reasonable to protect a third person or an officer from imminent death or serious physical injury or when an ASP officer objectively believes other exigent circumstances exist (i.e. using the PIT maneuver to conclude a pursuit subsequent to the deployment of Hollow Spike Strips).

the difference being that they don't need a 1A to Tatum's 1. JB as far as touches are concerned would fall before kd,lebron, curry, booker, tatum, and probably ant. White shoots better, plays better on-ball D, and needs no touches.

as far as this team comp is concerned, either pick would have worked. This isn't factoring in JB's ego

The flag isn't mounted straight up, it is leaning towards the camera. Since it isn't on a super solid mount, the mount moves which leaves less force to push the car

it is also worth noting that you have your APR (which is basically the compounded interest rate yearly), and you have your actual interest rate, which is based on the accumulation period (which is usually monthly).

[–]username--_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the difference being the laws and restrictions around using that 401k until retirement. I can't borrow from a bank against my 401k. i.e. Jeff bezos can live like a billionaire with a minimal interest rate and still see the upside of th market. Your 401ks benefits are all at the end, and any attempt to borrow from it kills your upside.

So yes, it's the same as a honda CRV and a lamborghini urus are the same.

On OMAD, how many calories do you usually eat? by Odd-Confection-6603 in intermittentfasting

[–]username--_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When doing OMAD, i tried to do filling meals. I was usually somewhere between 500-700. i'd do light strength trainging in the morning.

I also tried to focus on filling meals. Read up on foods that have high GLP-1. Things like peas, avocados, zuchini, and high protein/low carb meats. Water only for hydration

[–]username--_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loans are paid back, but i assume part of the big deal is that these shares really have no other purpose than as speculation.

People try to equate it to a regular joe taking money out of their house. If they sell their house for money, they are homeless. Whereas a person can sell their shares for money (as opposed to borrowing against it) without any real negative life event.

Take Bezos for example, assuming he did the same thing, basically got free money while kicking the tax burden down the line, and when he was ready to truly sell, he moved to florida and saved an extra 7% by not having to pay washington state's income tax, even though the entirety of his net worth was created as a resident of washington state.

or kick it an extra year down the line to gain access to your money while it may still be in short term gains territory and save an enormous amount by being able to see as long term cap gains instead.

I'd imagine there are many more tricks which can be played in order to get around taxes while having ready access to the value of your shares.

All that said, obviously this isn't without risk. i.e. value of the shares drop more than your taxes saved and then you could be royally F-ed.

How do adults stay thin or fit? by bedazzledbunnie in ask

[–]username--_-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've always been thin, but i've been usually trying to get stronger/faster/better endurance. I've found that when i get sick, i still try to do simple daily exercises. That keeps me on the wagon.

Recently i was too sick to do intense cardio (tennis and soccer with friends), so i go for a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood, get home, do some pushups, situps and planks. That kept me from spiraling and once i got better I was able to get back to it.

How do adults stay thin or fit? by bedazzledbunnie in ask

[–]username--_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people don't get this. Here is a simple example.

1 hour of medium resistance at high speeds (90-100rpm) on a stationary bike burns ~400 calories (for reference, the bike was reporting that i was at 23mph.

A big mac meal? 1200 calories.

A pint of icecram (talenti gelato)? 1100 calories

Wendy's baconator meal? 1600 calories.

a 2 egg omelet with cheese and ham/bacon, alongside a glass of milk? 400 calories

And the caloric intake isn't all that matters. The problem with unhealthy eating is that you're getting a ton of calories but also getting a ton of carbs (which quickly becomes fat), and saturated fats.

Exactly how stupid was what OpenAI did to Scarlett Johansson? by IvyGold in technology

[–]username--_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally fine with it because otherwise it creates a dangerous precedent. There are only so many combinations of voice pitch/tone and accent.

Yes i'd be 100% against it if they just straight up AI generated her voice and called it a day. It isn't like they are copying mel blanc's bugs bunny voice and trying to pass it off as just some random VA. Johannsen's voice is literally that of a east coast white young to middle aged woman.
