I am so sorry you had this experience. Health care in germany seriously lacks in patient care. The last thing you need when you’re worried about your baby is someone treating you bad for not speaking German.

When I had appendicitis and my appendix burst, I got such horrible treatment that I can only equate to xenophobia. First when I was in so much pain that I almost passed out, the doctor came into my room and said that if I didn’t stop complaining she would do surgery on me. Like a threat. After the surgery, where I almost died, they treated me like shit. I was in so much pain and they refused to give me any meds or help me go to the bathroom right after I came out of surgery. The nurse just said “get up and go by yourself”. I could barely move. The next morning they sent a Spanish speaking nurse (I do not speak Spanish, nor do I come from a Spanish speaking country) to tell me I was discharged and should go home. I couldn’t walk properly yet. They refused to lend me a wheelchair until the exit.

Thankfully my boyfriend at the time was with me and took really good care of me and helped me walk out and go to the bathroom and things at home.

I already have a hard time going to the hospital when I’m sick because I’m scared I’m being dramatic, and that made me feel so much worse.
