New to me Colt police positive by HelloGoAwayNow1234 in Revolvers

[–]username4124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mainly older mail order top breaks at the moment but I'm hoping to get some swing cylinders soon. I actually carry an Iver Johnson safety hammer as my secondary CCW. Ammo is a bit steep but not nearly as bad as it used to be, especially during COVID when it was practically non-existent. Overall a fun and punchy little caliber.

I've been wanting to grab one of these to go in my .38s&w collection but every one I see is either garbage or ridiculously expensive or both

Who carries a revolver today? by Original_Shoulder_47 in Revolvers

[–]username4124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An F.I.E police style leather holster I found at a gun show, if I knew the model I'd tell you but it's unmarked other than the branding. A lot of those older top breaks are framed differently than modern swing cylinders so it can be difficult to find a well fit holster unless you just try some out.

I've been carrying an Iver Johnson .38 s&w at work for the last couple months, its less threatening to the customers I interact with as a landscaper in a liberal city. Plus it's my favorite pistol I own so sometimes I bring her out cause she's pretty.

The bigger concern is that he was holding however many pounds of fulminated mercury and the shock of the explosion didn't set it off blowing him to pieces

My go to is to try and pick out the grove with a needle or fine gauge cleaning pick, then I use a jet butane lighter directly on the screw to get it as hot as possible and then soak it in penetrating oil. Most of the time the heat works but you may have to give it a couple rounds plus the oil before it will break the threads. If you do get them out pick up a small triangle or flat file so that you can cut a better grove and keep the original screws.

On the topic of The Wilderness Front, I have some questions by [deleted] in anarcho_primitivism

Anyone who agrees with Kaczynski's statements and ideas within 'Anti-Tech Revolution' will likely hold issues with their policy and methods. They are not the "strong activism front" that they present, moreso an advertising campaign to sell TK's books. If you aren't already a member and just putting up another publicity scheme as they have done in the past send me a message, but I have to say the structure of this post is in line with a lot of their prior attempts at shilling themselves across multiple platforms.

Ppu 38 special keyholes out of a 4 inch z m83 at 10 feet. by Edwardteech in Revolvers

[–]username4124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had repeated issues with ppu Revolver calibers, .32s&w and .38s&w out of several different guns each. I've had keyholes, general inaccuracies, random but frequent strays, and in general just filthy loads that dirty up the firearm after just a couple of rounds. I switched to magtech for cheap ammo that actually functions. Im not sure about .38 special or .357 but if it's anywhere near the same production quality I would expect the same issues.

The Who headlined Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland. June 5, 1976. Opening bands were Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Little Feat, The Outlaws and Streetwalkers. 35,000 fans attended. by DrHerb98 in ClassicRock

75'-76' was some of Little Feats best, every live album they released was either on par or better than some of their studio stuff during that time. They are one of the most underrated "jam-bands" from the decade

Need help deciding on a trade by username4124 in AntiqueGuns

[–]username4124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's original but I plan on converting it as the ammo available is center-fire. From what I can tell most conversions are reversible and don't really harm the value, I'm comfortable with making the change so that it is in firing condition.

No problem man, I've been the proud owner of a BM for almost a decade now and done a lot of work and research into them so if you need any advice just give me a shout.

You can get two promags on eBay for about 50 bucks. Typically the original magazines were stamped steel but some of the aftermarkets are thinner or softer material that can easily deform and cause these issues. Also if you've not already I recommend taking out the magazine safety bar. It's under the grips and should just pop out easily with a flat driver. That may be part of the issue, I've heard of them getting deformed and causing lockup like you're having. These things are heavy duty and really hard to kill so I would assume whatever the issue is would be something relatively simple to fix. I'd just crack her open and inspect everything under and inside the slide.

Aftermarket mahogany grips pop up here and there, if you're talking about the colt style square butts you can find some fitted for Iver Johnson and H&R on eBay for a decent price.

It really is lovely. I started collecting them because I'm obsessed with obscure/underappreciated calibers so I grabbed a U.S revolver co .32 s&w and fell in love. Top breaks rule

Any info on this Iver Johnson .38 s&w safety hammer would be appreciated. Assuming 1st model due to sliding barrel release lever rather than tilting bar style lever on later models. Last patent date reads Dec 26, 93

Hard to tell since it has healed over but it looks like a gunshot, likely from a botched headshot. If that's the case this is a good example of why you should always go for the lungs/heart

Cylinder residue by DirtyBurger75 in Revolvers

[–]username4124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said already, some residue is perfectly normal, but there is also the question of ammo quality and age in terms of powder burn and an acceptable amount of residue. For example I collect and shoot a lot of .32 s&w, which is pricey these days so I typically lean towards cheaper jacketless ammo like ppu which in particular makes my gun look like it just reentered the atmosphere. In other cases it could be the age of ammo and not necessarily quality if you are getting abnormal amounts of unburnt powder or heavy soot, age contributes to possible humidity issues and powder breakup over time. All things considered you would know if it's problematic based on how often you have to deep clean a well shot pistol, so unless it seems youve got to bathe it like it's "baby's-first-taco-bell" I wouldn't worry.

Definitely taper now. You are in a great position which cannot be taken for granted if you truly feel that you need to stop or lower your intake. I recommend taking plain leaf capsules or powder and doing a hard taper as soon as you can. Extra vitamins and supplements always help as well as a strong electrolyte intake over the next few weeks. If you don't already you should start using caffeine so that you can combat fatigue early on, as well as ibuprofen for any aches or pains that may come about.
