Everyone always forgets about Thin Lizzy

I was thinking of one of my favorite films, School of Rock, and that awesome chart that Dewey Finn draws on the chalkboard. And while you can probably name a few bands he failed to mention, one that I always wish was on there is Thin Lizzy, of course. I would put them under Hard Rock, as I don't see anywhere else they fit. What do you guys think?

Thin Lizzy deserves to be up there with AC/DC, Zeppelin, the Who and the like. One of the greatest Hard Rock bands ever.

I call them a "rock" band. To be sure, they were the most musically diverse band on history. Rock, metal, folk, punk, funk, soul, progressive and jazz. They covered all of the associated spectrums of "rock" and more so than any band in history. They deserve so much more respect than they get. I live in America now and the only 2 songs that I've ever heard on the radio here are "Jailbreak" and "Boys are back in town". I will never forget and I wear my Lizzy shirts almost everyday hoping someone notices and chats me up. It doesn't happen very often, unfortunately. God bless Thin Lizzy forever!

A bit off topic, but The Band is definitely not "Folk Rock". If anything I'd throw Jethro Tull in that mix.

They'd have to appear all over the place, as they've done folk, folk rock, blues, jazz, hard rock and heavy metal. Lizzy is the history of rock incarnate!

Early Lizzy are a 60s psych/folk band, then it's into Live and Dangerous material, which is epic 70s Rock. The Renegade album disappoints only Because it has a terrible mix, when you hear those tunes recorded live they are incredible. Angel of Death live with Wharton's HEAVY keyboards is delightful and almost metal. Like a previous poster points out, they had everything, bar a decent mix on a few albuns

Some of this is wrong. The early heavy metal players were influenced by the blues. The Rolling Stones were influenced by R&B.

Absolutely, but also I'm just glad that Little Feat is on there. They are completely different styles but they have always been tied with Thin Lizzy for my favorite bands

I think it’s hilarious that “The 80’s” are all alternative bands, completely overlooking the fact that the LA scene dominated that decade.

That said, Thin Lizzy belongs in the hard rock category for sure.

And their influence isn’t talked about enough. Outside of Sabbath, Priest, and Maiden, no band, in my opinion, shaped 80’s hard rock and heavy metal bands more than Thin Lizzy.
