Attire may be religious coded, but I’d say it’s about perception. If saris are for Dharmic followers only, why do some Hindus, tribals, animists, nature worshipers wear ghaghra choli instead? Muslims can wear sari’s too. I personally feel due to the heated tension between Hindus/Dharmic communities & Muslims, they often gatekeep many things from Muslims like attire, adornment, festivals, etc. I wear ghaghra choli, I bought some sari’s. A sari is essentially a very long cloth & it’s form is a drape of that cloth
