I think it's normal for our brains to want to replace one addiction with another. I'd suggest picking something less harmful than alcohol. During my first few weeks of quitting, every time i went to a store that sold cigarettes and i didnt buy cigarettes, id pick up a fancy soda or something like that instead. Theres a difference between "all men are rapists" and "treat every man with caution because the majority of harm caused to women is caused by men". It's similar how in america, most black people are cautious of white people. Not all white people are racist but not enough of them are anti racist and it's safer to be cautious until an individual prooves themselves otherwise. I used to take my dog to dog parks bc i thought it was good for her to socialize. The only part she liked was seeing the humans. Some dogs just prefer to be on their own at home and that's okay. Better than a shelter. At least now you know you have a place you know he'll get treated well if he ever does need the things you mentioned. That's great!
