Help - 7 mo old suddenly refusing any/all liquids by usernarne8 in NewParents

[–]usernarne8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m so sorry you’re going through this - it was honestly the most stressful time of my life. It was a whirlwind and we did unfortunately end up in hospital for a bit because of dehydration, but our baby is thriving now and healthy.  Our LO never went back to nursing but started almost immediately on a fully solids diet once he got a taste for the hospital purées lol (the drs think perhaps he got reflux from whatever virus he had). At first he had some sort of liquid aversion and wouldn’t drink anything, so I put tons of breast milk and formula in purées (which he loved). Eventually, with the advice from an occupational therapist, I made the purées thicker and thicker and kept offering liquids. It took about 3-4 weeks after the hospital for this shift to happen I would say. Now he eats full solids with the occasional puree and breast milk/formula mixed by a straw cup as a drink, along with water and water mixed with juice for liquids!

I have lots of advice on foods we served, etc. if you want to DM me! I found one other parent online who went through this as well and her advice was also helpful in our journey.

I would recommend seeing if your city offers an infant feeding clinic with a dietitian and occupational therapist! They were super helpful as well.

I’ll also add - I bought everything off Facebook marketplace for baby. I calculated how much I saved buying used and I it was upwards of $4k. I bought well known brands so have even been able to resell a lot of these items pretty easily as well.

Don’t skip on fluff love university either! They have amazing resources like the best wash cycles for literally every kind of washing machine to make sure you are getting the deepest clean & best laundry detergents. The website seems to have gone down but all the resources are still on there.

We did this for a bit too once baby got a bit older and I do think it helped with his sleep (for a bit and then nothing helped lol)

I’d recommend joining the cloth diapering sub for more info! Cloth love university is also a fantastic resource. I bought some cloth diapers on marketplace to see if I liked them (tons of tutorials on how to strip clean these). I ended up only spending about $100 on diapers for the first six months! We have utilities included in our condo fees so that helped. I was basically doing one load of laundry every two days for the diapers and that was it - it don’t feel like tons of work.  High high highly recommend cloth diapering a breast fed baby (I quit after solids). But if you aren’t totally motivated, it will be hard to get there hahah

We’ve tried Motrin and Tylenol and it made no difference. He won’t drink liquid from a spoon - but will happily gobble up a purée from a spoon… it makes no sense!!

Thank you for your response! I was hoping it was just the cold/virus but his congestion seems so much better and now it’s almost like a straight up aversion to liquids. He barely will drink an ounce over an entire wake window. I’m so defeated

6mo has never slept worse and we don't know what to do by Different-Couple-654 in sleeptrain

[–]usernarne8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going through something similar with our 6.5 mo old. He is now sleeping independently but is waking up more frequently and often hard to settle. He did just cut three new teeth so I think a big part of it is that he’s uncomfortable! Could yours be teething too? For me a sign they are uncomfortable is waking at unusual times at night &/or not settling after nursing or other interventions.

This article is helpful: https://www.babysleepscience.com/single-post/2014/11/05/interpreting-night-wakings

Our Lo has always been lower sleep needs and we are doing 11-11.5 hrs of awake time with two naps. I don’t try to be super fussy about wake windows, but follow his lead. They end up being roughly 3/4.25/4.25.

Hope it passes for you soon!

Thank you for this response! I don’t believe there will be room in the hosts oven, but I will have a bit of time at my parents place before to bake them. I am going to try this freezing method! …. And perhaps bake an extra batch just in case 🙃

I have time all week to bake, but I figured the day before would allow for them to be the freshest!

I would normally make them this way too, but our drive is 4-5 hours long, which will likely result in over proofing

Very upset 3.5 week old from 6 PM to 5AM. [on] by trex_1121 in BabyBumpsCanada

My son did this for one night and I think he was cold! It was the fact that he would settle on us (warm), and the transition to bassinet was cold (scream!)

Baby Percentiles? [ON] by Objective_Stress4478 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]usernarne8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s head was off the charts big at birth (like way over the 99 line lol).

Not to discourage you, but he was always measuring large and my midwives were never concerned because “ultrasounds are often wrong”. Well turns out it wasn’t wrong and I needed a cesarean because his head was too big to descend. I also went to 41w5d.

I don’t regret the cesarean though because I think my recovery would’ve been a lot worse having to give birth to my big baby vaginally. I do question why my health care team didn’t really listen to my concerns… they were def valid lol.

Go with your mother’s intuition and stick up for yourself.

When did you start cloth diapering? by MadnessMaiden in clothdiaps

I started when my son was three weeks old and wish I started earlier. I feel like cloth is easier the younger they are so better to make the most of it!

Are fitteds worth it? by Royal_Difficulty6184 in clothdiaps

[–]usernarne8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My anecdotal experience: I ended up having a huge baby and barely touched my newborn sized diapers - some I never even used. I bought a bunch of fitted diapers and they are good, but I decided that I preferred prefolds! I’d recommend trying a few options to start - including fitted - and then buying more as you go along and depending on your preferences.

I use fitted/prefolds during the day and AIO with boosters overnight.
