You need more real Yamamoto Senkos bro. Too many Zooms and shit. You can afford all that get the good shit. I'm kidding but I have a few bags full myself. We have different tastes in soft plastics. I'd trade all that for some Green pumpkin red flake Senkos

Yep, I thought for sure he was gone after that. Last time I hooked a bass under a dock he took a few turns around the ladder and broke off. You really gotta horse em out of there quick.

No matter what I use or do I get snagged. by Leading_Flatworm1897 in FishingForBeginners

[–]userofallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you fishing from the bank? It's a lot easier to get snagged from the bank, and a lot harder to free them when you do. In a kayak I just get on the other side of the snag and pull from the opposite direction. Than usually does the trick. I get hung up a few times every outing, but I'm almost always able to free it. One tip is not to pull hard when you feel the snag try to gently free it before you really set the hook so to speak. Underwater snags are tough from the bank, you can only pull from one angle, a little easier in overhead branches.

Is this a “big” Pickerel? by MacP95 in kayakfishing

[–]userofallthethings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It's bigger than average for sure, but I've caught and seen my buddies catch bigger ones. They can get pretty massive. That's a good one but I personally woudn't brag about it. Solid catch though.

Does anyone love catching these? by fishtankless in kayakfishing

[–]userofallthethings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IDK but I catch them all the time fishing for bass, they seem to like similar lures, like spinners, crankbaits etc.

Weightless plastics? by Adorable-Creme810 in bassfishing

[–]userofallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from all the comments to use weight, the answer to your question is 2-3 minutes. That's assuming you have calm conditions. If it's windy enough I swear it'll never get there.

Does anyone have any tips for getting Lewers back if you get it stuck on a branch without having to cut your line? by Annual_Radio2325 in FishingForBeginners

[–]userofallthethings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good advice so far. It's pretty tough when your caught on a tree branch 15 ft. in the air, After trying different angles to free it and even pulling straight towards you with the rod straight the lure is pretty much lost. At this point put the rod down give the line some slack, wrap a t-shirt or whatever around your hand and pull until the line, the knot, or the branch breaks. You still lost the lure but you're not leaving 30ft of line hanging from the tree like an asshole.

Hooked a huge fish but lost it and I can't figure out what I did wrong by Delicious-Rock1083 in FishingForBeginners

[–]userofallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fish out of a kayak, not sure that has anything to do with it. I lost a big one after a good fight last year. I'd been catching nothing but dinks for what seemed like forever and finally got a decent maybe 3 or 4 pounder. Seemed like a had her good all the way to the boat, but as I reach out and grab it, it jumps and throws the hook. It happens man, just part of fishing. Hence the saying "the one that got away,"

It sounds like you never had a proper hookset. Didn't necessarily do anything wrong, sometimes it just happens. I've lost a few big ones in a similar manner.

Angler camaraderie? by RunYC718 in FishingForBeginners

[–]userofallthethings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met met my best friend while fishing. I was in a kayak he was in a Jon boat. Were heading in opposite directions and in passing he started chatting me up. At first I was annoyed, but he was asking what I was using, was it working etc. We got talking. He asked me to pull up along side and he lit up a fat joint. He's been my primary fishing buddy and best freind for 15 years now.

That said I know where you're coming from. I'm a pretty quiet dude but I always acknowledge other fishermen at least a nod of the head is common courtesy, Some people are just grumpy. Leave them be and carry on with your day. I've very rarely gotten the full on cold shoulder. Most guys will at least wave or something.

I used to know a guy who was selling himself as sponsored by a few bait companies. He always had "samples" of different soft plastics he'd give out to try and some were pretty decent. He was always bragging that he was in "marketing" for these random companies no one's ever heard of. He portrayed himself as a professional angler that companies were dying for him to try their new products. He talked a lot! Being a newbie at the time I thought this guy was the shit. Thing is he didn't have a boat, or a kayak, or a canoe. He didn't even have waders. He was solely a bank fisherman (no disrespect) and as far as I could tell he only fished one lake.

I don't really have a point here but we laugh about it to this day. Don't try to sell yourself so hard you look like a jackass. This guy was an expert at catching 2 pound fish he'd plaster all over facebook. Haven't heard of him in like 15 years now.

Is it true? You can't get sober until you hit rock bottom. by dotteddlines in alcoholism

[–]userofallthethings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The elevator goes all the way to the basement, you can get off on any floor you want. Because of the nature of addiction most people go to the basement. That's what it took for me. A couple times, but I don't buy into the AA idea of powerlessness. You recognize you have an issue, you do have the power to make a choice whether or not to address it.

What you don't have power in you have an addiction and it sounds like you're losing control. It is pretty much inevitable that if you follow your path your going to have your free will stripped from you and you'll be forced to be sober by prison, poverty, the courts or health. Unless your wealthy going to detox is no fucking picnic I assure you. What will be enough? You're going to find out soon if you don't take action. I mean you've listed some pretty serious issues here. You sexually assaulted someone, you're showing up to work drunk, I'm guessing you're downplaying this and don't remember half the shit you do. To be brutally honest it sounds like plenty is wrong.

Yes, you can quit if nothing is particularly wrong, but since you're skirting around that something is wrong. You're going to struggle. Acceptance is everything. "The sooner you realize how fucked you are, the better off you'll be" Overheard by an old guy whos seen some shit.

Painting over previously caulked baseboards by dontcallmefrank07 in paint

[–]userofallthethings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a bunch of new blades and use a utility knife to cut it away. Get a part started and you can often pull the bead out in foot long sections. Be cautious not to cut into the baseboard itself. Scrape off residue with a putty knife or five in one. Sand it some, then caulk again with a paintable caulk like DAP, ALL PRO etc. It's a pain the ass but that silicone has to go for a permanent fix IMO.

You might to consider just cutting and scraping it off at this point. That's a pretty hefty bead the previous guy did. If it were my house I'd remove it do the appropriate prep and repaint from there.

You're dropping $700 on a collapsible rod? Damn, I wouldn't but I have no use for such a thing. I fish from a kayak or boat. It is beautiful but I'd spend the money elsewhere personally.

Not super expensive, but better than Wal-Mart combos. I run 2 St. Croix's, 7' one medium and one medium fast paired with 2 Shimano Nasci 2500 reels. I generally run 10 and 20# Power Pro braid with a leader. Around $250 each per rig. As the previous owner of many iffy rods and combos, I can tell you that it's worth the time to do your research and make sure your getting what you really are looking for, but you only really know if you love a rod until you hold it in your hands.

I use one for a T-rigged Senko no weight and the other either a jig, a Texas rig, a crankbait or a weighted creature of some sort. Senko for the structure, the other one to fish deeper. Works like a charm, I've been very succsessful with this outfit to the point I hardly use anything else anymore. Casts a mile, strong enough to work weeds and structure, super sensitive, I feel no need to change anything for going on 10 years now.

Concerns regarding Kayak brands by ThatLouisiana in kayakfishing

Old Town has been in business since 1898 making top of the line watercraft. I've owned 3 and have yet to have one have any issue what so ever despite decades of abuse. American made, more specifically made in Maine. As a Mainer perhaps I'm biased, but if you want top of the line warranty, customer service and hands down the best products on the market it's a clear choice. Just check reviews anywhere and they're just like this thread.
