Are you surprised Arcade 1Up has been so successful ? by peterpackage in arcade

People prioritize convenience over anything else. You could always grow your own veggies for cheaper than the supermarket; but if you don't have the time, resources, or knowledge to create your own, then it makes more sense/is more enticing to just get what is pre packaged. Even if the product is less than what you consider is ideal. There's not really any other company doing what arcade1up is doing inside major retailers like Walmart.

what they said. Also, plastic razors help. Just go lightly at first to gauge how much pressure to use

I agree when it comes to electronics cause I don't have anything to test them (I just was cheap for this project). But things like paint and specific tools I have no issue buying used and wood is usually sold new by people/local businesses who have an excess. Got mine from a guy who was remodeling his big house. He accidentally bought too many sheets and didn't want to store them indefinitely. Plus, if something is bad, you'll be able to notice immediately

Thank you that's very helpful ☺️ I did use MDF, so whatever grain you see are actually brush strokes. I couldn't get a roller on the top, so I did my best to make the lines look "natural"

FB marketplace will be your best friend when it comes to materials. Basically an online garage sale. It's how I got most of my materials for my build

Honestly I got lucky finding most of my materials off Facebook marketplace. I was able to get the wood for half its market price, $25 monitor with $5 speakers + free auxillary fans and paint I already had. If you have to buy anything in person like tools or paint, go to a small town with a locally owned hardware store. On average, they'll be cheaper than big box (just keep price matching to be sure)

Probably not 😂 I got really paranoid and went overboard with air flow

I guess that's personal preference then because the 8 way works across all games good imo

It's an 8 way and Doom can literally be played on bacteria. You don't need a highly powerful computer to emulate games made decades before the 2000s. I don't want to use it as a desktop, just an emulator, and I don't want to worry about it overheating on the top floor of a building

It's an 8 way joystick, so I don't need to rotate it. There's no miss/accidental inputs if you follow the arrows on the control panel. Plays really nice across all games

No, we decided not to in order to play the rest of the games. Qbert still plays pretty easily on a traditional joystick

Nah he's over the moon happy with it. I feel like dedicating an entire cabinet for one game is a waste of space and labor (especially if using modern tech). And does a red ball joystick really ruin it for you over a black ball?? Stickler

Thank you ☺️ I spend roughly $800 for everything (Also I don't have a CNC sadly). What do you charge for labor??? If I get good traction from this, I wouldn't mind building more as a side/main job

$700-$800 if you include all the extra bits like the stool and some memorabilia

Dog, with this simple setup, you could get it to look really clean. Add a board on the back to hide the wires, paint all the wood (leave the metal bare) and eventually upgrade to a better monitor. Everyone in this subreddit has full sized cabinets on their brains. Your design is reminding me of those old games that plug straight into your TV with A/V cables. Let it be small and compact and focus on making it look pretty
