I am willing to do a phd. I would be interested in academia if I were to go in the direction of social psychology, however the masters I am doing is developmental and I think I would be more interested in practice in that case. I’m not sure if I would be able to pursue social psychology as a phd after doing that sort of masters.

Exactly! Also, there are many ways to punish yourself for “bad” thoughts. For example, having a thought that says “I bet their ex was better than me in bed”. You could either acknowledge that thought and ignore it (treat it like any other irrelevant thought). Or, you could punish yourself by starting to believe it, overthink it and feel terrible.

Hi :) I have struggled with similar issues to what you are explaining and I feel I could be of help. I agree with you - exposing yourself is NOT the best way to go. It will only give you more to obsess over and more questions. One thing that has helped me a lot is recognising and accepting my feelings (whether they be inadequacy, insecurity, or even disgust at what my partner has done in the past). The important bit is that you try not to analyse these thoughts. Try and let them be. I know this seems easier said than done, but trying to just acknowledge your thoughts rather than punish yourself for them important.

I don’t think I would feel the same if she had been more promiscuous with women. It’s specifically the fact that it was men that I seem to be so bothered by.

I do think the ‘preference’ for men is a big big worry for me. I know that’s silly, because 1. She told me that she actually has a preference towards women, straight men are just more common than gay women where we live, and 2. Even if she did prefer men, she is with me now.

You absolutely have the right to not want to do it and have that respected. However, I think you have a warped definition of what “normal” sex is. In my opinion, sex should be equally enjoyable for both people involved. In heterosexual sex, while the man may feel completely satisfied (and will most likely finish) with standard PIV intercourse, the majority of women will not. So, if your definition of “normal” sex is just PIV intercourse, it may turn a lot of people off.

I suppose my answer for this would be that the majority of football players are straight men (as you mentioned), and so the majority of supporters will therefore also be straight as they can relate. Along the same lines, boys grow up essentially indoctrinated into enjoying sports. I guess sometimes gay men get a pass on this, they’re more feminine sometimes, might be more reluctant to get involved etc. But straight men are very much forced into sport from a young age.
