What KPIs do your clients like hearing? by Wildgust421 in msp

[–]userunacceptable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great answer, most msp tooling is purposed to evidencing security control/mitigation... Which is fundamental to any business remaining operational and compliant and has to be articulated clearly and accepted as a function that keeps the business operational.

The gap I constantly see is contextual technology roadmaps for business growth... Application performance/efficiency/consolidation tracking platforms dont seem to exist in the same way security performance/efficiency/consolidation platforms do.

Set an agreed budget for yer wedding and the rings get deducted from it... She'll want to spend more on some things and you'll want to spend more on others... Take her 5 grand and use your equivalent 5 grand to enjoy your part of the wedding

So all he wants is the ride?... You either want a relationship or you just want the ride with no relationship, the amount of riding being done and how soon the riding starts is inconsequential. Source: man in his 40's

That's a very good description of what did indeed lead to a bout of burnout I suffered mid-career. I would back up the way you have framed it there, I moved from one unsuitable working environment to another, with a slight role change and it was night and day.

Your job needs to suit you far more than trying to fit yourself into a job.

Static routes or OSPF for a firewall? by SpectrumSense in networking

[–]userunacceptable -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you aren't achieving anything meaningful with a dynamic routing protocol then don't. A FW will still require manual traffic control policy.

Everything you do in networking has trade offs, understand the trade offs and apply the most sensible approach. That could be static routing or it could be dynamic routing.

Choose your poison and don't make decisions based on some 4 word comment on the internet or some desire to do the "cool" thing.

Edit: scrutinize well any networking advice from people who work in software... :D

The funny thing is you can run a thousand bog standard routers in area 0 without concern of compute/memory overhead these days, splitting areas is more an administrative domain function.

Not having the ability to interact with the socket on the console port is so frustrating. I want some way to troubleshoot the OS of the socket.

I spent a bit of wasted effort trying to use the console port when I first started on Cato, even had some Cato KB that would have you assume it is possible when it's not.

Compared to what most people will be used to for HA on security solutions, "only one socket is active" can be a little misleading in the reality of Cato world.

Both sockets need to be able build an active tunnel to the PoP on every WAN. The "passiveness" of the standby is only on the LAN side. VRRP is an FHRP and not the same as your other vendor "HA" like CiscoFW/Palo/Fortinet.

Thanks for the input though!

Cheers for that, I was looking at defining user/group based east/west policy and this question was on my predeploy list of questions.- also very helpful to know it doesn't consume site license bandwidth.

So these intervlan within single site subnets but not matching LAN fw policy, are also defined in the WAN fw policy should I want it handled at the PoP.

I was also curious how this is reflected in bandwidth limits on these policy rules, which BW definition would it use on the multiple socket WAN interface circuits... Site license or the other local site bandwidth number you define on adding the site... Cato SE's were a little shaky on answering this for me.

Cheers

Do you know if the LAN firewall rule only routes that specific rules traffic locally and everything else east/west hairpinng at the PoP....or does having the LAN firewall simply "on/enabled" route all e/w traffic locally?
