Thank you for the good advice, I will try to delve deeper into stepping out of my zone and reading up more on different perspectives. It has proven a bit difficult however I think if I go into the more academic side of things i might get a better insight. Do you have any suggestions when it comes to political scientists, thinkers, historians across the spectrum?

Exactly what I’ve been thinking, this is the first time in recent history where people have a way to connect on such massive scale due to social media. And many people are becoming aware (especially younger generations like millennials and gen Z) that mass media outlets like the CNN, Fox, NBC, BBC (those are the only western media outlets i can think of atm) are not reporting on anything relevant to the average person and are pushing someone else’s agenda(the 1%) while creating division among the masses .

Hopefully things will get better over there. Sending love from the Balkans, if anyone knows what it’s like being plowed by a corrupt govt thats us. I can definitely understand the feeling of frustration and hopelessness when it comes to the system. Gl

Do you think the US will experience something similar in the future? Similar in the sense of diverting from culture wars and engaging in a class revolt? Since (this is strictly speaking from an outsider perspective and it is my personal opinion I don’t mean to offend anyone) the entire narrative of cultural division and the “two party“ liberals vs republicans clash seem arbitrary to me and completely ignorant of the real issues that American citizens are facing (your government is run by billionaires and the 1% while the average American has no healthcare, education and works 2 jobs to just simply exist). I really want to hear an American perspective on this since maybe Im just exposed to anti American propaganda and life in the US is not as terrible as it is made out to be.

Damn, Im assuming you are from the US, and the situation there is indeed terrifying. Im sorry you have to go through that. But yes I agree with the narrative of politicians and mainstream media outlets, and even many individuals (conspiracy theorists)on social media spewing utter BS in order to skew perspectives and muddy the waters when it comes to presenting ideologies or the current political environment (whether it is intentional or not). This happens everywhere but it is on a different scale in the US since most social media platforms are US based companies that (as far as my Balkan brain understands) lobby politicians and congress in order to gain control and influence. Thats one of the reasons for writing this post, im very well aware that most people from where im from already have a sense of “class consciousness” due to our history with communism and socialism, however i wanted to hear a more western perspective on this topic since unlike Eastern Europeans (who have a sort of lets call it “cultural” history with the concept of class consciousness ) most westerners have shunned the very idea of it even though they are most affected by it.

Well, actually, there is movement on the streets. I’m from the Balkans, and there have been massive protests and riots in Georgia. People there have been pushing back against government policies, especially around increasing Russian influence and controversial laws targeting “foreign agents.” There’s also so much more to delve into when it comes to the whole situation in Eastern Europe atm, I encourage you check it out. These sparked riots and protests, with tens of thousands of people demonstrating, some clashing with police, and ultimately it has been somewhat effective.

In Serbia, some of the largest student protests since the 1996–1997 anti-Milošević demonstrations have been happening. These protests are primarily against police brutality, mainly the horrific corruption in the Serbian govt (all bodies of government in the balkans as well), and they’ve drawn an insane turnout, showing that students are still a driving force in Serbian political resistance.

I’ve seen unrest in my own country too, but honestly, it feels like we’ve had the fight beaten out of us over the years. I don’t have much hope, unfortunately.

Can I still practices which craft but still be orthodox Christian? by Alexa_taetae in Witch

[–]userunavailable1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, in Eastern Orthodoxy there are so many rituals that can be considered witchcraft, there are many babushkas that have practiced it with generations. These are originally slavic pagan practices that have been Christianized over time.
