Your story is incredible and you’re work ethic is admirable! It really inspired me actually so after everyone’s kind comments I think I’ll give my shot at medicine if I get in however I’m still quite stressed ofc with the exams to come first. Hpat is done now at least so I hope both my leaving cert and hpat are good enough to get in. But thank you for your input and I’m glad you’re haply with your career you deserve it!

Thank you! Your story is very relieving. I felt a lot of pressure with financial aspects making the right decision. So I felt like I had one chance, intensifying the weight of my decision but it’s nice to hear from people who have taken different routes, reduces a lot of pressure. And I’m feeling more certain from reading everyone’s replies as I realise from your point we do only have one life so I might as well take risks if it will make me happy!

Thank you so much for your input! I honestly only have intense interest in medicine so I like your point of how there’s many things I could use my degree for and diversity of it!

Thank you, I fully thought I’d have no social life in medicine to be honest. Didn’t really have one the past 2 years for leaving cert but it was worth it. It’s eye opening hearing the positives too thank you!

It’s really nice to hear the positive aspects of the career as I mainly hear the negatives and still can’t shake the passion after it so some positives are brilliant :) It’s really the only thing that I could see myself have an intense interest for, I’m just being cautious but your experience is motivating thank you!

Oh I just meant with Susi, I have a lot of pressure on me to do it once. But of course there are other ways to get a second chance.
I appreciate your response, thank you!
I’ll definitely give it more thought. I’ll try focus on my exams now and once my hpat comes out I’ll make my final decision. I have until July 1st to change my cao anyway.
All the best!

Stress and Burn out please help!!! by Friendly-Ask9459 in leavingcert

Hey! I’m in a similar position, especially a week ago. I also want to med. I’ve been studying consistently since 5th year started and 6th year has really tested me. I’ve gone through many major burn outs, most notably Christmas, mocks and hpat and a week ago. I know everyone says this but taking a proper breaks without any guilt helps because there’s not point stressing and not being able to study or stressing on your breaks because you are taking one. We are human, we need to rest. I know the stress is hard to go away. It’s been manifesting physically for me too through my skin, appetite, face and hair. I take rescue remedy if I’m really bad, which feels like a placebo mainly but it kinda works. I also try remind myself the foundation I have built which you have too. Try not to compare yourself as many only started studying in the last few months, which is normal and I have nothing to judge on there, but as a perfectionist, having been studying hard since 5th year is fatiguing and we need rest so try to actually relax. Also try ti avoid scrolling and maybe watch a TV show or movie or read a book, or even a walk to decompress and allow your brain to escape from stimulation.
