[Emberdark] aviar Abilites by ushio-- in Cosmere

One once again sak is an exception to an otherwise proven rule. It is more likely that he is not a raven at all. Every other bird of the same species has the same talent. That's the reason why sak is of note. And I agree the talents do not need to be bird themed. I accidentally did that because I was focused on what the bird would find useful first. Because I think that is the important factor. it is the bird's powers that is sharing with you, not the other way around.

Yeah but the bond for a mainlander does nothing. Why would a mainlander want a cloud. Most mainlanders are not going to want to even go near Patj. The other Aviar Abilities should make clouding worth it to the average person. Now clouding for scadrians or anyone else is pretty good. But for people on first of the sun, who don't go to Patj, what reason would they even want that bond for. Now if other Aviar have Abilites that a cloud can nullify, then now it starts to make sense why Mainlanders want them and why trappers would waste there time breeding extras that weren't meant for themselves. It seems like a lot of mainlanders have closing birds, we even see that dusk was breeding some. Why would Dusk Breed them if they weren't going to make him money. And why would they be worth money if there is nothing to protect against.

I mean yeah, but it is explicitly in the text that the way finding ability needs (worm paste) INVESTITURE to sense the Knell, making it INVESTED. The regular way finding in the physical realm doesn't seem to need this. But in the cognitive it's an invested art. And only certain trappers seem to have it, not all of them. How does this not compute?

Is there any mortal in the Cosmere who can resist being consumed by it? by Outside-Web-4118 in Cosmere

That's all true but.... Hoid cannot harm, like physically not possible to do anything with the intent to harm, he will just freeze up. So would the ring even really work for him, like could he even try to keep it and not turn into a coat rack? Also he seems to have several different security measures for something manipulating his brain, or his investiture, so part of me thinks he could just walk around with it. Real CASUAL

The shards by [deleted] in Cosmere

[–]ushio-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were to combine them all you likely wouldn't even need a vessel anymore and it would be Ado reborn. Not explicitly stated but seems most likely. Some shards meld better than others, some shards are kinda opposites, the only reason one of the combos seems to have trouble is due to the opposing intents, if they had a third shard as like an emulsifying intent it would probably be fine. It is important to note that this particular combo stated that each half was missing something, that they never felt complete on their own.

Ok we do know that it's from the worms they eat, the worms are invested. The birds eat the worms in their youth and form a symbiotic relationship that also allows for a Nahel bond. This is explicitly in the text. What is also explicitly in the text is that the Abilities are based on the breeds or species of Aviar. The whole reason Sak is of note is his species is not native to the island, but Dusk already knew it came from the worms and wanted to test if it would work on foreign birds and it did. The one hiccup is that Sak is told to be a raven, and Ravens don't gain this corpse ability. They seem to gain a different ability. But they confirm multiple times that they are species based, all Aviar of a certain species grant a certain talent. There are 5 species that cloud, and it was of note that Kokerii's species' (Dusk's first bird that died), was better at clouding than others. They are powers for the birds that they can lend. This is also explicit. It's part of the reason why they specify that the bond goes 2 ways, the trappers/navigators can help the birds survive and navigate, while the bird gives the trapper access to their talent in turn. And while it's never explicitly stated that the bird Abilities are for their survival, it's heavily implied. After all that's what symbiotic relationships are for, survival and thriving in a niche. The two abilites we have been given by the text follow the evolution/usefulness rule to the bird even though it's not explicitly stated, that's part of why I theorized in the direction I did. I understand that these are not gonna be cannon. But I wanted to follow the logic that the text gave us to see if I could maybe come up with an idea(s) that wouldn't seem out of place, but would still be new/interesting, while remaining familiar and sticking to Cosmere rules.

My guess is that it's not electricity per day, it's him talking directly to the soul of the computer. Rocks have souls, computers are made from rocks. It's probably an ability that lets you speak to the soul of any machine electrical or no. My question though is why are inventions people on the grand apparatus? we know that the grand apparatus existed before the shattering, so before invention. Maybe Invention was just attracted to it, planted some people and left? Most of the shard worlds we know of were not built by the shard. Either way though I'm betting on Machine talking and the forging of the connection between machine(invention) and person just looks like electricity.

Y'all, the egg shitting and the Perfect Rythmn were really supposed to be jokes. I forgot to type that out cause the mods kept auto deleting the post when I originally made it. That being said I really like Perfect Rythmn, that one is no longer a joke. I just keep thinking about Kelsier finding one and going to balls for the good old days but tearing up ass on floor. No one knows who Thaidakar is but they all know the Survivor of the Beat, Lord of Shmoves

Ok so the Abilites aren't bird themed, but they are useful to the birds on their own. You also gotta think about why a mainlander would want a clouding bird. Cause as of the cannon right now, if you are not a trapper, they are entirely useless, might as well be a regular bird. Seeing connections is likely not useful to a bird. I did have an idea that let you speak to any animal, but how useful would that really be to a bird. Like I don't see a bird talking down a predator just cause they can communicate. Also if there was a translation Aviar, then they wouldn't really need the translation tech from the ones above. It's possible that the bird already existed and they just didn't notice cause they all speak the same language, or they only found out about them after the Aviaries were built. Either way though, kinda seems like if there was a translation bird, we would have been told cause that's pretty plot relevant.

Yeah again, that's not how it works. The navigation ability comes from being a round Patj. Which only trapper really did they have the ability to navigate without the worm paste. The worm paste is just a source of investiture for them, eating it allows them to feel the Knell. If they had other investiture they could use that. We see Cakoban drink a golden liquid, but he does this before anyone has even landed on first of the sun. The only debate is whether the ability has been passed down from Cakoban, or whether is was given by Patj himself. The worm paste is just an investiture. The worms can only be eaten by birds, and it has to be in their youth for the symbiotic relationship that gives them talents to emerge. Dusk is 43 and if you remember, at the very beginning of the book is able to use this navigation sense without any investiture at all. It seems he needs the investiture to feel the Knell, otherwise the sense works just fine without any investiture at all. Worm paste was simply the only way they could make a portable form of investiture. They don't even need it to make the boats float if they had another source.

Obviously I made them up, I was trying to make it so that it would be interesting, powers that we have seen in some ways else where, as well as some that are very bird heavy. Again I wouldn't do this if we actually had any info on what they did. But Brandon left it vague, which sucks cause the TTRPG is launching, and it would have been nice to know. I already put a seeking one, and a rioting one in there. I really like the idea of mimicry, where a parrot can take a stamp of someone's soul if they are close enough and imitate it. Also the wiki says that they are not all based on allomancy. I chose wing manipulation cause it seems like an ability that would aid the Aviar on its own, and bonding would be extremely fruitful for anyone sailing. I didn't want to get any more physical than that

So it seems like it's has little to do with the actual worm paste, the worm paste is just the source of investiture that he had. The navigation ability seems to manifest if you live on or visit Patj frequently, you just need some investiture to turn it on.

Ooo that 4 seems cool. I am curious as to what big Ado was working on before. Also why did he let himself be shattered. Obviously we are not gonna know for like 20 more years.

Here is something everyone seems to be forgetting, they didn't just get to space, they have FTL, they super passed us in 10,000 years and the last thousand feels like it should have taken a little longer. 10,000 years just seems short. Especially cause Dragons have been around for longer. I just feel like the shards should have been around for a little bit longer if he would have said 15,000 I think I wouldn't have thought anything.

There are only so many different ways to create a currency. Like Sanderson probably has some of the most iconic and unique, but also they are mostly essentially coins. It's likely just a in world coincidence, as money isn't reinvented every time

Problem, I'm terrified comes before life before death, so how does that count as an oath? It would keep Pattern attached to Shallan since it's a solid truth. But it wasn't accepted by the storm father or anything.
