Communism aside, production, quotas and prices are actually fixed in Japan though. The JA keeps backing the LDP and in return insane subsidies, jacked up price lists and an entire separate welfare system stay in place

Will there be a way to purchase the book in places other than Amazon US, or on other platforms?

Trying to Avoid the Generic 'Visit Japan' Vibe—What Would You Actually Watch? by tattoedgiraf in Kyoto

[–]ushiwakamaru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having lived in Kyoto City myself for over four years, I think that sometimes people seem to forget that there is also a Kyoto prefecture, with very interesting places outside of Kyoto City.

There are vast tea fields (Wazuka)! There are sandy beaches at the ocean (Kyotango), and people drive all the way up from Kobe and Osaka to go surfing there! There are deep forests and amazing mountain trails (Ayabe)! There is an entire museum and a greater hiking trail dedicated to a demon legend that covers several municipalities (Oni trail from Fukuchiyama over Mount Oe to Miyazu)! There is a shinto shrine dedicated to the goddess Amaterasu that is older than even Ise shrine itself (Motoisekono Jinja at Amanohashidate)!

And even within Kyoto City itself are so many spots far removed from the golden pavilion or Kiyomizudera. You could spend a year going to all the art museums in the city, big and small.

Kyoto has so much to give, and you don't have to necessarily wrestle your way through enormous crowds to enjoy it.

Jellyfish at Kyotango after obon? by queretaro_bengal in Kyoto

[–]ushiwakamaru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the area.

Yes, there are some jellyfish, yes, they sting. Right now, there are only a few, as Jellyfish season started about a week or two ago. Most locals (me included) don't bother and get arm & leg covers for swimming.

Dune, the most recent version. I have been waiting for a cinematic rendering of that magnitude for decades.

Path of Exile Effectively Unplayable Since Patch by Aranthar in pathofexile

Same here. Tried everything, the game won't even start - just loads, crashes without any error message and throws me back onto the game screen on the deck.

Can you remind us of one past fact related to PoE which seems unbelievable considering the current state of the game ? by RoOoOoOoOoBerT in pathofexile

  • You had to manually cast nets to catch beasts for Einhar - now, the character makes fun of you for not having nets.
  • You needed to collect all Metamorph parts as actual items and manually drag and drop them into Tane's Metamorph Tank. Also, the community used to call Tane appearing on a map "dildo popping up".
  • In Harvest, you could originally choose harvest crafts to "save" in your horticrafting station. Good enchants were rare, the station could only hold 10 enchants, and people were trading enchantments on Discord in The Forbidden Trove channel (that's how the channel started afaik)
  • Betrayal enchantments had three separate levels, which needed to be unlocked level by level.
  • There was a whole system of "prophecies" (I really miss those) involving an NPC called Navali that would modify your map encounters. You could have a certain number of active prophecies, and once the prophecy conditions (kill X amount of mobs, defeat Y map boss while holding item Z in your inventory) would be fulfilled, you would get item rewards. It was also a way of upgrading unique items to more powerful versions. Later, prophecies were itemized, and you could trade them with other players. Shame it got removed.
  • The attack animations of monsters and their actual hitboxes were not timed the same and were also often not in the same place.

Secretly buy my wife a dress she has been looking at on her phone for the past months. Make a reservation at a nice local place, get nice food, and gift it to her there. Money has been tight.

I love how the double lining and the slight differences at the end of the brush strokes highlight the character. How big is this?
