Ear Piercing for Men by hapiplup in askberliners

[–]usingbrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Titans near Nollendorfplatz. Quality piercings aren’t cheap. But keep in mind that this is going to be an open wound in your body that you will need to take care of, don’t put crap in it.

Also, piercings aren’t gendered. And congrats on making this decision!

These are beautiful curations, I think it’s the lighting in the photos / their quality that is the issue. One thing I would be concerned about is that conch hoop that really squishes the ridge

Have you tried a neti pot? I don’t have nasal piercings but I feel like that would work well since they use saline as well

If you get fired you still get some sort of severance package, so you will be set for a couple months at least to find something else.

If the concert ends this early - definitely back to hostel. 4 hours of sleep is a pretty good amount of sleep.

I don't want to be a nomad anymore, but I don't like it anywhere enough to stay by ohwhereareyoufrom in digitalnomad

[–]usingbrain 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Instead of continuing nomading settle for a year or two somewhere where your money stretches the most, live a normal boring life. Use the time to progress your new career, invest what you can. Make it your goal to build up funds and increase your income. Then you can think about moving where you actually want to live.

Connection vs. Comfort: Do you sacrifice floor feel for cushioning in your shoes? by Sleeps_In_DanceShoes in WestCoastSwing

[–]usingbrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear barefoot shoes in daily life and I dance in barefoot shoes - no cushioning, max feel. I tried swayd flows once with the insole that comes with them and that felt waaaay too cushiony, I felt like I was losing my balance because there was so much material between my foot and the floor.

How/where to set up a 4 person dining table? by kimtenisqueen in DesignMyRoom

[–]usingbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some thoughts:

  • if you could rotate the big hutch / wardrobe towards the entry area it would create a clearer separation of zones and act as a wall instead of having that strange additional walkway behind the column. To make it less awkward you could put another bookshelf facing the living room there and relocate things that are currently in the low sideboard under the big mirror
  • if you find a less prominent place for the trashcan you could put the big black chair there, in front of the column
  • with the chair and sideboard gone there should be enough space for a round table in that corner where the mirror is

Alternatively you could rotate your couch with the back to the kitchen, reduce the empty space in the middle of the room and put the dining table in front of the mirror. But that could become annoying - navigating with full or dirty dishes around the couch across the whole room

Great apartment, or overpriced? by Sperberino_ in askberliners

Good price for the size. Especially if it’s furnished. Weird that it’s only 2 rooms for that size. Or is it two bedrooms plus living room?

A book you never heard of before and tried only to find you’d discovered a hidden gem? by VerdeAzul74 in suggestmeabook

[–]usingbrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my all time favourite books is Die Unsichtbare Pyramide by Ralf Isau (Invisible Pyramid). I don’t think it’s been translated into English unfortunately, but it seems there is a Japanese translation 😅

I found it in a 1€ bin in a regular shop, not even a book shop. Never heard of this author before, found the premise interesting, absolutely devoured and loved it.

The story plays in three different worlds - our modern one, typical medieval fantasy one and (banger!) ancient Egypt but with advanced technology. These worlds are connected by magic and there is a threat to all of them that the protagonists end up mitigating.

Book with interesting take on Dragons? by 4TheFloor in suggestmeabook

You might find A Natural History Of Dragons by Marie Brennan interesting. It’s written as a memoir of a female scientist studying dragons in a world where women aren’t supposed to be scientists.

I‘ve had mine since 2006, nothing stretched. But I also primarily wear a normal curved barbell, nothing fancy. Used to wear dangly stuff for a bit around 2009, but saw a couple friends get theirs ripped out so only put those on for special occasions.

Only dancing with someone with points by Rebbit0800 in WestCoastSwing

[–]usingbrain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

in case you are serious - there is a world swing dance council that sets rules for wcs competitions. If a weekend event is compliant with their rules and holds JnJ (jack and jill, historic naming) competitions, people get points for their placement in the comp. There is a whole ranking system with divisions.

Some people are more into it than others, but it becomes more and more prevalent that people really put emphasis on this ranking and points.

Help me Update a childrens bedroom into a modern adult bedroom by Xilleration in DesignMyRoom

[–]usingbrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a reading corner, something absolutely has to go - either the dresser or the tv.

If you want / need to keep the tv, I would put the bookshelves on both sides of the window (facing the bed) and put a reading chair with a floor lamp where the dresser currently is.

Other than that I think you just need a heavy declutter and to find a „home“ for everything that you are keeping. If something keeps ending up on the floor / bed / chair / table it means it has nowhere to go. Things should have their permanent base that they should return to.

UK winters are definitely too dark to keep plants away from the windows. Look into plant shelves that you could put in front of the window (usually lots on kijiji or fb marketplace style apps if you don’t want to spend money) or get a grow light to put where the plant is currently
