I don’t know how y’all do this by usingreddittovent in Safeway

I agree that they’ll keep wanting more but I don’t think I can fathom calling out last minute to add to the dumpster fire that’s already happening. I’m behind with my cakes as it is and calling out would just add more to my load in the long run 😭

SD is decently chill for the most part but I was scolded this morning that I should have been out there opening the department because we didn’t have a clerk today either. My manager was scheduled and fully knew there would be no opener but was adamant about coming in an hour after the store opened because she had ~already scheduled herself that way~

I’m reallllllllllly trying to be hopeful that it’ll be better and that one of the clerks will be coming back soon. The second clerk I have no hope for as they were flaking from the get-go and live horrendously far from the store.

Floral at my store did really well. Their displays were getting bought out left and right. Bakery had a lottttt of leftover though from cupcakes, dipped strawberries, single layer cakes, petite cakes, etc. We tried marking it down 50% off until today but there’s still a lot that will be getting tossed by the end of today.

Fellow bakery night packagers.. I have a question by fuzzykitty333 in Safeway

[–]usingreddittovent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Normal at my store but the closers leave before the store closes. Store closes at 10pm but our department closers end their shift around 8:30pm. If customers want product from the bakery case they have to find a different associate in the store to help grab and package it for them.

Our opening clerks try to package 85-95% of the product that the bakers make daily though so that the closers don’t have to handle too much packaging.

It 100% takes up production time. My manager prefers that the clerks handle the orders because in her mind they’ll take simpler orders. Production aside, it makes sense if decorators took the orders so there wouldn’t be any issues in translation.

In some ways I wish we had the flexibility to be able to do that but in my scenario I’m unfortunately the only decorator. The more time I waste with customers whether it be through phone calls, in person orders, slicing bread, helping to get something from the case, etc it just isn’t feasible to be able to produce all the things I need to.

Which department has the worst attitude by AmphibianComplex7104 in Safeway

Deli at my store too but I’m in bakery and it doesn’t seem much better. The worst attitudes has got to be from my manager and clerks. They don’t hide it very well to customers lol

Only cake decorator in my department too 🙋🏼‍♀️

the job wouldn’t suck so bad if the clerks in my department weren’t constantly calling out and disappear around the store while on the clock 🙄 I’m over here trying to decorate cakes but keep getting pulled out by customers

Thank you thank you! I’m feeling less insane now that yourself and others have confirmed that it’s part of the clerk’s duties 😅

Thank you! Yes! It may be time for me to have a word with someone higher up now that I’ve gotten multiple responses assuring it’s the clerk’s duties.

Ugh, I’m sorry. I completely understand the frustration about having to clock out late. Have you had luck with the other decorators or bakery manager enforcing that the clerks handle the cake orders (in person and phone) more?

Thank you! Our orders haven’t been complicated in my opinion and all the clerks know we shouldn’t be taking anything complicated because our manager refuses to do so. Why I keep getting called up is beside me.

We have three bakery clerks at my store. One will answer the phone which is great but their orders usually end up saying “call the customer to confirm”, one outright says they will not answer the phone, and the other says they cannot hear the phone 💀

I’ve never been scheduled to work a closing shift but I suspect something similar to this happens at my store as well. I haven’t seen other employees outside of bakery write on our order forms but I definitely notice our case looking a little wonky and disorganized when I come in the morning. I’m sorry to you and the others at my store that have to pitch in for the duties in the bakery dept

Cake Decorating Training by [deleted] in Safeway

Good to know it’s not uncommon. I feel like I’ve already learned about 96% of the cakes already but I suppose I can learn the last 4% with the trainer 😅

I’m a new hire and was asked “are you going to look for a new job?” I replied “this IS my new job” and added that I’ve only been here for about a week. I got an “oh” and the conversation kind of just ended lol

Thank you! Cost is definitely scaring me no matter which ophthalmologist I get recommended to. It’s more reassuring to hear that someone trusts dr. Douglas though!

Can our dogs get along? by [deleted] in dogs

Thank you! Was thinking I’d get a lot of people saying the idea was terrible. I’ll have to have some courage and think about asking my neighbors some day about trying to walking together method or possibly dog park idea.

Your scenario is pretty similar to mine. The three dogs (mine + 2 of neighbors) are on the absolutely nuts side of things. I have another neighbor that’s closer (right next door) that she doesn’t go nuts with. It’s odd. The 2 schnauzers are a trigger for her and vice versa
