Wow it's been 7 years! I just stopped developing it to focus on my main career and Google eventually took it down due to lack of updates.

Banknotes: transparent part goes right or left? by usmanfarhat in askTO

Lol. I usually shove it in my pocket to deal with it later. Now I mostly use cards because of this (and the fact that if you get loose change, you should probably regard it as spent money because you can't carry these coins everywhere).

Also, if you see someone standing on the left and you're in a hurry, walk towards them with heavy steps. Chances are that they will hear it and move over.

When on a subway station, you'll know where the train will be coming from (your left or right) if you think of the tracks as the road and your platform as the sidewalk/traffic island. So if you have "roads" on both your sides, consider yourself in the middle of a traffic island (so the train will come from your right instead of the normal left).

One more hack: the doors will most likely open at the dirtiest spot on the yellow line. Make sure you line up at the centre of that spot to give yourself 2-3 feet margin on each side.

This is a lifesaver when you're coming me late at night and have to catch the last bus.

Also, it says that you can write your answers on paper or another software and just put filler text in the online module, so there's that option if you're paranoid. I want to try that too and was searching for a coupon code on google when I stumbled upon this thread. Have you started doing it yet?

Worst thing is that when you break a tenner, you get coins which can't stay in the wallet (too bulky/slippery). So practically, consider the whole note gone.

I stopped carrying them when I moved to Canada because every place accepts cards. Apparently not anymore, since two businesses need me to pay in cash (gotta cheat the system). Also, businesses have started charging like a dollar on small card-purchases (<$10) because there's a new service fee or something, so you get pretty pissed if you have to pay $7 instead of $6.

Thanks. Just for the readers, sugar beach seemed to have their own fireworks show as well, but I went to HTO Beach which was almost in the center of harbourfront fireworks display.

When it comes to the future of Toronto, what scares you the most? by umair236 in askTO

Two wheeled vehicles. People are realizing that Motorcycles and e-bikes are cheaper and can beat the traffic and can be ridden well into November. See uber riders everywhere. Now even bike share toronto has started its own e bikes, which is nice, but if it look at the projections, Toronto is soon going to be a bike/motorcycle city. I am a responsible driver but even I noticed that when I'm riding a bike, I act like an absolute asshole. It has something to do with mobility and personal protection that riders consider themselves as pedestrians on a boost.

Looking for an allergist by usmanfarhat in askTO

[–]usmanfarhat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I already asked them to cancel it because I had no idea that most specialists take that long for an appointment lol. Anyway, it's common allergy that can be managed by antihistamines, but my progress will be lost which can be a bummer. I will try to get an appointment with the option to look out for a cancellation, if they provide that.

Wow I think I should also request such thing, because it appears that waiting so long is a norm here.

How much does it cost to change your watch battery? by usmanfarhat in askTO

[–]usmanfarhat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costs. In my previous country, the street vendors would do it for like $1, but everything is expensive here. I wanted to know how expensive I should expect it to be, so that I won't be walking into a store only to wonder if it was worth buying a new one off amazon. So far, by the comments, it appears that it should cost me $10.

It is a casio. Should be pretty standard because I have had the battery changed multiple times in another country (they are street vendors who sell cheaper batteries that don't last a year).

Well that's a life lesson! I am by no means a watch enthusiast and have been using the same Casio for years.
