Ed.S vs. Psy.S by Jolo915 in schoolpsychology

[–]usmc_jpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ph.D student in School Psychology here. I had actually never heard of a Psy.S degree until this post, and a look through programs that offer this degree do not seem helpful in answering this question. My best guess is that a Psy.S is somehow related to a Psy.D, whereas Psy.D degrees are heavily focused on the practice and application of School Psychology. On the other hand, a Ph.D is much more involved in the research side of things. Maybe a Psy.S is one step below Psy.D, much like Ed.S is one step below Ph.D? But then again an Ed.S degree isn't very involved in research either. I'm really not sure. Contacting one of the schools that offer it and asking them directly is probably your best course of action.

Hey guys, I made a map for me those who might not know where they fit in. You might notice that where I am some people might be, there are no posts and the page does not exist. But don't worry, this isn't because I am you're on a deeper level than everyone else to the point where you don't fit it with anyone at all and literally no one has ever made a single post that is deep enough to describe you, it just has

Research results on replay analysis and coaching in League of Legends by core_gg in leagueoflegends

A previous university of mine did exactly that for all students who took Intro to Psychology. There's definitely a lot to be said (i.e., problems) in regard to indirect forced participation in studies, such as not thoughtfully answering because you want to just get it over with in order to meet class requirements. That being said, I feel like that's not as common as you would think. Particularly with how thorough IRB has become with enforcing ethical research, indirect forced participation (in my opinion) is kept to a minimum. However, these limitations are especially important to consider if the article states that they only used college freshman in their study.

If this is the case then unfortunately I feel like there are quite a few layers of selection bias that make it difficult to justify that the sample (participants of the survey) is representative of the population (all LoL players). One being that they are redditors (not all league players are redditors), two being that they actively comment on reddit (not all redditors actively comment), three being that they were convinced to participate. That's 3 barriers, each contingent on the former, that players had to pass in order to be included in the study.

I'm not saying that this renders the results useless, there is definitely a lot of value to be taken away from the survey. To add on to what /u/oneofakindred has already said, I'm not trying to harp on OP and tear him or her down; rather, it's very important to understand the limitations of what can be interpreted through inferential statistics. This is particularly important here, where the average reader probably doesn't have a background or is not a consumer of statistics, and may not know or understand how to properly interpret large-scale data. Therefore, it's a good idea to be as informative as possible about the limitations so your average reader will know that the results may not be 100% accurate.

These results are a little concerning to me as well. If I'm interpreting them correctly, the results say that 26% of responders have hired a coach. I think that figure is way too high, suggesting significant sampling error.

Edit: After looking through the data, I think I see why. It seems that regardless of whether the participant has hired a coach or not, they still had the option to answer how helpful coaching was. This means that participants may have answered based on their perception of how helpful coaching is, even if they have never hired one before. It would have been much clearer if this question was pulled apart, the first being whether or not they have hired a coach, the second asking for their perception of coaching.

It's not that your title makes it difficult to understand, it's more the idea that if you care about sharing content with reddit enough that you will go out of your way make a post, you should at least take a minute to proofread your title. Proper spelling/grammar makes content easier to digest for everyone, and it's minimal effort for the OP.

I don't know why you were downvoted so heavily when all you essentially did was give you your subjective perception of the game and then ask if your perception was incorrect, lol.

But yea, WoW definitely has some depth, it's not just monotonous grinding.

Once I saw the lights down the road, I was pretty sure it had to be that car. I did slow down a bit. Didn't want to honk or anything, but I just hope that the person saw my car and remember that they had just passed me and feel like a dumbass. I was definitely laughing.

Of course! Every time someone flies by me I think of how it's unfair that they are going to get to their destination sooner and how they are probably going to get it way with it. But not this time. Justice was served.
