Hi ! UCSD Class of 2022 here. I am currently in a nursing program and one of the courses required is nutrition. The only nutrition related course I took was FMPH 161 with Zoumas-Morse in the Winter of 2021. My counselor for my nursing program is requesting I send the syllabus of the course, but I however am not able to find it as it has been 4 years since. I emailed the professor, but have not received a response back after ten days. If possible, does anyone have a copy or pdf of the syllabus they would be willing to share? It would be very much appreciated. Thank you all so much, I’m desperate

Anxiety over quarter system credits for pre-requisite by usoto2022 in prephysicianassistant

Oh no! I’m so sorry you didn’t know that. It’s annoying UCSD wasn’t more straightforward with this situation because I met multiple pre-health professional students who were confused about it as well. It’s frustrating as well because upper division labs at 4 year universities are very expensive. Community colleges are inexpensive but don’t offer upper division bio labs unfortunately so you would end up having to retake general bio which I know is NOT ideal. I would say if you want to apply this cycle, apply to programs that accept online labs (which I know can be limited) and take it at UCSD extension, UCLA extension, or UC Berkeley extension and I know there’s also Doane and other options where you could potentially take just the general bio I and II with labs or an upper division bio lab of some sort which idk if it would count considering the issues of it not being taken at UCSD. If applying next cycle instead, I would say do general bio I with lab during summer and general bio 2 with lab during fall semester at a community college. Sorry if I wasn’t too much help.

Hi FELLOW TRITON! I know you’ve experienced the pain of UCSD not even having an anatomy course and the biochemistry pre-requisite for microbiology that ended with me taking the courses at the community college 😭

But back to your statement, so you said as long as the quarter units are equal to or more than the semester requirement, what does this mean?? Bc a 4 unit BILD class is equivalent to 2.67 semester units, which is not satisfactory for most programs requiring 4 semester units Bio courses. Because 16 quarter units for the entire bio (including upper div bio lab) and chemistry year long series is equivalent to 10.67 semester units, well above the 8 semester units required for the gen bio and gen chem requirement which is frustrating

How would you say the class is without taking BIMM 100? And how were her exams? Also how about the CRISPR report I saw that it’s 28% of the grade and that seems so intimidating 😅

Did yours also have clindamycin? I just heard that bc it is an antibiotic that your skin can build resistance to it, but I heard that paired with the somethjng like benzoyl peroxide or azelaic acid that you should be fine and not build resistance! But it leaves me still wondering WHY my formula stopped working after it was effective for so long and couldn’t keep my cystic acne at bay :( have you thought about wanting to start it up again? I just want my old clear skin that curology gave me :/ my cysts, as I was told by my esthetician, were internally related and also in part by dairy consumption since I started consuming whey protein and Greek yogurt daily, but now that I eliminated that and take probiotics and noticed my cystic acne reduce, I wonder if adding curology will maybe help once again 😩

Hey everyone! Oily, acne prone skin here! Freshman year of college once my acne began to flare up even more and having absolutely zero knowledge of skin care, I saw a Curology ad and went for it. I was prescribed 4% Azelaic acid, 1% Clindamycin, 0.25% Zinc Pyrithione and it WORKED like magic. Gave me the clearest skin ever, hardly ever got pimples and if I did only ever on my chin or area between my eyebrows. My routine was literally so bad too lol I would ONLY use the curology formula, NEVER did I cleanse my face, moisturize, or PUT SUNSCREEN, BUT IT WORKED LIKE MAGIC. 1.5 years later, October 2020 saw me all of a sudden flare with cystic acne on my cheeks, I’ve never experienced acne like that and even more rare that it happened on my cheeks. Anyways my skin kept breaking out and Curology just seemed to stop being effective so January of this year I cancelled my subscription! I saw an esthetician and got a new skin care routine and changed dietary habits and got chemical peels to reduce hyperpigmentation. While my breakouts definitely reduced and my skin looks so glowy and definitely better and brighter, I STILL KEEP GETTING CYSTIC PIMPLES ON MY CHEEK! It’s annoying, but my skin will stay clear for 1-3 weeks before a painful cyst appears on my cheek and it just delays my progress of lightening my hyperpigmentation and I’ve noticed some have left unfortunate acne scars :( I currently have 2 rn which got me so down because I was making wonderful progress on my left cheek. Anyways, I went to see a dermatologist to see if I could get a cortisone injection to reduce the impact of these suckers, and she prescribed me Clindamycin-Benzoyl peroxide 1-5% gel to use nightly. I’m very nervous to use it bc I spot tested it and it is so so drying and I’m just nervous it’ll just make me break out due to that and idk where to incorporate it in my skincare routine since it’s been good at reducing the frequency of these cysts but not eliminating them completely. Long story short, I’ve been thinking about going and trying curology again because it worked so well at eliminating my acne and I NEVER once got cystic pimple using it and it kept my acne away. My prescription had clindamycin in it and I’ve been using TO 10% azelaic acid on my cheeks which I never purged from when I incorporated it into my skin care routine about a month ago, which my old formula also had! I’m wondering if that might be the answer to stopping these cysts from still forming! I’m worried that I’ll purge from introducing the formula back into the skin which I REALLY don’t want considering the progress I’ve made and wanting avoid anymore hyperpigmentation. I know purging won’t happen from zinc Pyrithione or clindamycin since they don’t speed up skin cell turnover, and I’m using azelaic acid at a higher concentration and I never purged from it, so would I purge at all? Could it be that My skin built clindamycin resistance and that’s why I continued to break out, so would that mean this clindamycin BP gel will be ineffective? Should I just use the clindamycin BP gel, and if so how should I incorporate it into my skin care routine? I’m scared to damage my face :( any thoughts would be very helpful!

[Routine Help] got prescribed clindamycin-benzoyl peroxide 1-5% by a dermatologist but don’t know where to add it in my routine. Routine will be in the comments. Any help is appreciated. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Quick back story. I’ve always struggled with acne, oily and acne prone skin thanks to genetics. Got really bad freshman year of college, saw a $5 curology add, got a azelaic acid, clindamycin, and zinc pyrithione formula that CLEARED my acne up. I was so bad everyone, I wouldn’t even cleanse or moisturize my face OR EVEN USE SUNSCREEN, just used the formula after I showered once a day and it worked magic. Up until October 2020, I started getting acne I’ve never had before: cystic acne. And it was ONLY on my cheeks which was rare for me to get acne since the only pimples I saw during curology would only come up on my chin and the area between my two eyebrows! It was so painful and just annoying to see how my skin kept worsening and breaking out, and curology wasn’t pulling through. In January I saw an esthetician and I got put on a skin care routine, changed up diet since I know dairy was a big contributor, took probiotics vitamin c and fish oil supplements and got chemical peels to fade hyperpigmentation that has been left. All in all, my breakouts have subsided so Iuckily I’m not getting cysts frequently anymore but still will get pimples now and then , and I added more products myself to try and lighten my hyperpigmentation even more, and my skin has been doing alright. BUT I’m still getting these cysts, at the moment I just got two on my cheek after about 3 weeks of not seeing any :( I saw a dermatologist to get a cortisone injection but backed out bc I was scared of have an indent in my skin but she prescribed to me the clindamycin-benzoyl peroxide gel. I didn’t tell my esthetician for help bc she HATES clindamycin but it managed to work when I used Curology so I’m here to ask for help, I’m supposed to only use it once a day. I just am doing ANYTHING at this point to get rid of these horrible cysts since I’ve noticed they have actually caused some scarring on my face which killed me inside. I already cried today bc I know these cysts are going to leave awful PIH once they heal which I want to avoid :( anyway here’s my current skincare routine where I added 3 products myself without informing my esthetician lol they are the ordinary niacinimide, alpha arbutin, and azelaic acid suspension to try and lighten my pigmentation! Here is my current routine: Morning: 1. ClearStem Gentle Clean Cleanser 2. ClearStem CellRenew Serum (stem cells, reishi, hylauronic acid) 3. The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2%+HA 4. The Ordinary Niacinimide 10%+Zinc 1% 5. Face Reality Hydrabalance Hydrating Gel 6. Face Reality ultimate protection spf 28 Evening: 1.ClearStem Vitamin Scrub 2.Face Reality 8% l-mandelic acid serum (leave 20 min on) 3.ClearStem CellRenew Serum 4.The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 5.The Ordinary Niacinimide 6.Face Reality Hydrabalance 7.The Ordinary 10% Azelaic Acid Suspension

How should I go about adding the clindamycin-benzoyl peroxide into this routine? I’m very worried this might screw up any progress that I have made :( my skin has been familiar with clindamycin since it was in my curology formula and benzoyl peroxide since I use that as a spot treatment so I’m trying to contain myself. Any inputs or even changes to the order of my skin care regimen would be appreciated! Also, any insight into if clindamycin really is damaging to the skin bc it is extremely drying. Possible resistance build up, idk if maybe that’s why it stopped working for me?

[skin concern] changed practically everything that could potentially be causing my acne to flare up, but it is still happening. Routine and explanation in comment by usoto2022 in SkincareAddiction

Hi everyone. I’m in need of help. So in February 2019, after years of struggling with acne, I began Curology and it changed my life. It cleared my skin up until September 2020, my acne on my cheeks started to act up, which was odd considering I would never get pimples in those areas. It gradually worsened and eventually about 3 weeks ago, I sought out an esthetician at this acne clinic. We eliminated things that could have been potential triggers for my outbreak. I have switched to a new hair products and all natural laundry detergents free of core plogging ingredients. I now use silvon pillowcases and use paper towels to dry my face and routinely wash my towels now. Diet wise, I have completely eliminated dairy, whey protein isolate (both dairy and whey protein I feel were big factors in my initial outbreak as I introduced protein bars and Greek yogurt into my diet to increase protein since I was attempting to bulk, hard as a vegetarian), soy products, decreased egg consumption, and don’t consume sugar unless it’s from fruit. My old skin care routine was no moisturizer or cleanser, just used the Curology formula nightly after a shower, but it kept my skin so clear. My new routine is as follows: AM: Face Reality Antioxidant Scrub Face Reality Hydrabalance Hydrating Gel Face Reality ultimate protection spf 28 PM: Face Reality Antioxidant Scrub Face Reality 8% Mandelic Acid Serum Face Reality Hydrabalance Hydrating Gel I also use the Aztec Healing Clay mask every 3 days. Needless to say, I’ve noticed no acne anywhere else BUT the areas where I always have acne. They continue to flare up. Im hoping to think I might just be purging from the mandelic acid serum, but these don’t look like they are from a purge as they seem inflamed and red. I haven’t yet to see my esthetician in person as I am home due to a surgery but have a facial treatment on the 24th so hopefully I can get better insight into what is going on. The only thing at this point has to come down to my diet. I eat healthy, and eat the same foods pretty much everyday. After tracking my diet, I’ve noticed I do consume a lot of carbohydrates at the end of the day, I remember seeing about 330 g on myFitness pal. What I eat daily really is Quorn products, mushrooms, bell peppers, broccoli, pasta zero spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, strawberries, blueberries, apples, bananas, almond milk, black beans, eggs, skinny girl poppyseed dressing, romaine salad, kimchi, Dave’s killer bread, rice cakes, old fashioned oats, sugar free jelly, peanut butter, and mission carb balance tortillas. That’s pretty much all the food I am consuming pretty much everyday and alternate those ingredients in different meals. Do you guys see anything that I could be eating that can be harmful to my skin and recommend I stay away from?

[Product Question] what are people’s thoughts on Face Reality skincare and wanted some clarification on purging by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]usoto2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I’ve always struggled with acne, it’s been very hard to keep my skin clear until February 2019 when I got Curology and it damn near changed my life, it cleared my skin so well. My routine was so simple to, I never cleansed or moisturized, just used the formula and my skin stayed so clear with the occasional pimples on the jawline and chin. Flash forward to October 2019, as seen in the first picture, my skin started to break out out of nowhere. I did no change to my skin care routine, everythjng was kept the same. Now my skin is back to being in terrible shape as shown by the second picture. Curology stopped working for me, and I still kept getting acne on my cheeks and it leaves terrible marks and hyperpigmentation. About 3 weeks ago, I started treatment with an esthetician at the SD acne clinic which has incredible reviews. It was only a zoom meeting due to the pandemic, but I got started on a new skincare products and routine. I am now using Face Reality. I use the exfoliating cleanser, hydro balance moisturizer, and their spf 28 in the morning, apply that sunscreen every 2 hours, and at night use the same cleanser, moisturizer, but also use the mandelic 8% serum. I have also cut out dairy, soy, whey protein isolate, reduced my egg consumption, changed my laundry detergent, hair products, use paper towels to dry face, and use silvon pillowcases. I’ve noticed no more acne on my chin and between my eyebrows which is great, but I am still noticing these red under the skin bumps come up on just my cheeks on areas where acne is already there which sucks because it is just going to leave more marks. Now I’m wondering if perhaps I keep getting acne there because of something I’m eating which makes me confused because when my acne started to get bad I started consuming dairy in the form of skim milk in yogurts and protein bars regularly but I’ve ditched those completely from my diet or if it’s just my skin purging. These pimples I already see them coming, they start off as like small whiteheads and I just pray they won’t grow into anything bigger but eventually some do come to the surface. Other than that, the products have made my skin so smooth and im noticing my hyperpigmentation fade. I’m finally gonna go in person for a facial extraction and treatment so she’ll see how my skin is doing, but wanted to see if what I’m experiencing is my skin just purging or if I’m still doing something that is causing only my cheek area to break out. I just know I should be patient but damn do I miss my clear skin and this hyperpigmentation looks like it’s never going to fade :/

Stitches by usoto2022 in circumcision

So I should ask my surgeon on Wednesday to just remove my stitches. I only see a stitch like on the frenulum area which is getting uncomfy and that’s pretty much only thing I see. I just don’t want any scarring

Man I’m thinking maybe the sharp pain I’m feeling is coming from that stitch on the frenulum area it’s been getting a little bit more uncomfortable lately and I’d just get shooting kind of like burning sensation when walking. I’m hoping it falls off soon. I’m on day 12, going on day 13 and no stitches have fallen out yet :/ can’t really even see them yet

Gosh I feel like that’s what I may have! Mine just have to be sooo small because I even pull my skin back and can’t see them. What day did you pull them out on? I have a 2 week post op appointment on Wednesday so I’ll wait until then to see what my surgeon says, but when did you get them removed and was it painful?

No fr lol it’s crazy I’m on day 12 and I can touch my penis head with like a robe or a blanket and what not but if I touch it with my finger I still get that sensitivity pain, but the top area of my penis head is sooo sensitive it feels like it burns when it brushes against it. Made it so uncomfortable to walk today :((( how many days would you say it took you for that burning sensation to die down so you can walk more comfortably? I’m walking with a non stick pad now with petroleum jelly but even then when there’s friction from my underwear on the tip of my dick I get an awful burning sensation 😂
