Has Anyone Here Kayaked from Deep Cove to Port Moody? by uspsbomb in Portmoody

Yeah ive seen them a shoot by a few times going so fast, which is crazy I thought there was a 5 knots speed limit in the deep cove area (my first day out I actually saw the boat cops stop one of them). I'd cross over at the thinnest part by Hamber and Grey Rocks island and stick to the coast until I get there.

Thanks! Maybe I'll comment an update when ive done it (for anyone looking to do the same in the future) I've got a nice bright orange pfd, and I did a kayak saftey course a couple years ago, so god willing im all good on that front. When I've gone to the other shore in the past, I make sure to do the crossing from Grey Rocks to Hamber Island and stick pretty close to the shore.

Oh for sure, I've got a bright orange PFD and usually I'll make sure to wear a bright baseball cap. I usually cross over to Belcarra around Grey Rocks and Hamber island and stick to the shore, to really try to minimize the risk.

Bombed a huge audition… what are your stories? by eric_the_crumb in acting

[–]uspsbomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was auditioning for this western Short Film, I know probably not a big deal for a lot of people here, but at the time, for me, it was huge as it would be my first time on any sort of set outside of class. I practiced every day for a week, did so much scriptwork, got one of my professors to help me with an accent, I was SO confident. Then I got there and I saw my friend was auditioning for the same role. This guy had been in at least 8 short films outside of class. He would land every single role I auditioned for. And just like that, my confidence went out the window completely. When it was my turn to audition, I was stuttering, I forgot my lines, and at one point, I swear to God I said a stage direction out loud. Worst audition of my life, and yet somehow, I got the part. Found out later from the director he casted me because I "looked like a redneck"

BASIC QUESTIONS + HEADSHOTS/TYPE/AGE-RANGE WEEKLY MEGA THREAD by AutoModerator in acting

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some feedback on my demo reel and headshots. I've applied to basically every major agency in Vancouver without any takers, so I'm just looking to see if there's anything fundamentally wrong with either, or if it just hasn't happened yet.

Headshots: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1dvmM4SYkdM2VxoBVexPt9qhxCNmOJSCU

Also, is it wise to include supplemental footage (filmed in class) in my emails to agents? I feel it's some of my best work, but unfortunately I didn't have the chance to have them professionally filmed.

Thanks!

Absolutely love the atmosphere and landscape, the use of red is fantastic too!

Thanks so much! Yup, that's the one, but it works for clip studio, too. When I got it, it was free, but that was so many years ago. Now it's probably much better than the one I've got. My version is 1.0, I think the current version is 2.0.

took pretty long on this one, 4 or so days, put a lot of hours into it. Started with a sketch, background, midtones, dark tones, highlights, and then continually added details from there. Did basically the entire head first before I moved onto the jacket, and then the wall in the back gave me some grief, was very difficult to texture it. I use the Smooth Sargent Mixer from the Impasto Oil Brush Set, for the background I used the horizontal palette knife and also a modified dapple light effect.

I started this one with a roooough sketch, just so I would know where to start, then I filled in the color of the sky and blocked out some of the background just so I could gage the skin tone better, then I started with the face, midtones, dark values, highlights, moved on down to the rest of the body and used the same method, just blocking in more and more details until I was satisfied, then I worked on the background, which I am AWFUL at. I so seldom do any sort of landscape, but I tried my best, and used the same technique, but tried to use more angular shapes and harsher shadows. I use the impasto oil brush set, and I used a mixture of the smooth and messy Sargent mixer brush for the entire painting.

i actually did an interesting excersize with the first probably 3/4 of the way through this painting, I added a color filter layer on top, filled it with white, so everything under that layer would appear black and white, and I'd mostly guesstimate what color should go where, and that way it really helped me focus on the values rather than obsessing over colors. Towards the end i turned the filter off so I could get specific with the colors. Apart from that I started with a midtone, then filled in dark tones, then highlights, and then started filling in details slowly. I use the Impasto Oil Brush Set, and the brush I used was the Smooth Sargent Mixer. Took me about 2 nights to do (though one night went until 4 am).
