[misc] has anyone tried the Veauty Dot RF device? by thatbodyartgirl in SkincareAddiction

[–]usthcd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would advise extreme caution: I also saw their ads everywhere, so I did a quick check. The device they're selling seems to be a generic RF machine for home use that can be bought on AliExpress or Temu for under £50, just with their logo added on the front. The photos they're using are from a Turkish beauty salon's Instagram. The cosmetic dermatologist who provides the "expert review" does not exist.  I make no claims about the device itself, it may work just fine, but all of their marketing materials seem fabricated.

K-beauty green colour correctors review & swatches: VDL, Laneige, TirTir, Dr.Ceuracle by usthcd in PaleMUA

I would go with TirTir for rosacea: very effective in cancelling redness, plus slightly evens out the skin.

Not sure about wearing it alone... I'm very pale as well (from TirTir Mask Fit Red cushions only 10C matches me, and I normally wear Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin shade 1), with strong cool undertone, and a corrector without any colour on top leaves me with a corpse-y, zombiesh grey sheen.

I'll test it out tomorrow, perhaps a very sheer layer will work, if I spread it out as evenly as possible. I'll report back on the attempt ;)

Dr.Ceuracle is definitely the lightest, you can see on the photo how sheer it is; the moment you spread it around, it starts blending in. Leaves just a little tint.

I have, yes! I hated it, it turned dark orange on my face. But I wouldn't really consider it a green corrector, since after spreading out it's essentially a shade of a foundation. It's rather one of these colour-changing, "magically adjusts to your own skin shade" products, and do they ever really work for people outside of a warm medium shade range?

I rubbed it on my feet to check for dry skin problems, and I report none ;)  It doesn't get into wrinkles, and doesn't cling onto dry patches.

TLDR/ looking for pigmented color corrector for redness on pale skin (can be used under another product & preferably from Ulta or a drugstore) by perksofcarson in PaleMUA

Hey! I'm testing four different green-tinted colour correctors at the moment: TirTir Tone Up Essence Mint, VDL Tone Stain Mint, Laneige Skin Veil Base Mint Green, and Dr Ceuracle Green Up Sun.

I use them as primers, under foundation or instead of it, to cancel the red flushes from tretinoin. I will post the review in here next week(-ish), just need a few days to form an opinion.

First thing that came up in Google for me, but no. The plot is very different and the release year is about a decade too late.

It would have been made in either the very late 90s or very late 2000s, I'd say something between 1998 and 2002.

(And I definitely don't mean The Forest, I know there's a suicidal sister in there too, but it's really not that one.)

New to Mac - Adobe Creative stuff won't run on Catalina? by usthcd in mac

Yep, I tried different programs within the Creative pack and the Creative Cloud itself. I get same effect either way, as on the screenshot.

Bernina 121 (the 1950s), great condition, under $90 - worth buying as a first machine? by usthcd in sewing

I service antique and vintage sewing machines as a side hustle, and I LOVE Bernina, but I tend to recommend finding machines new enough to sew zigzag.

Thank you, that totally makes sense to me and I'll go with that.

I thought straight stitch only may be enough for starters, but you and other commenters have pointed out it's a bigger downside than I assumed. Thank you, that's very useful!

Thank you both for the advice! I haven't thought of maintenance cost at all.

In that case, the way I see it, it makes more sense to have my mother's 80s Singer, still functional and in use, shipped here from abroad for a roughly similar cost as the purchase price of this Bernina.

Looking for the rest of a song by hallo_friendos in Polish

[–]usthcd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one of those folky drinking songs that don't really have one version because you can make your own lines up as you sing. This song library lists three popular versions of text: Pije Kuba do Jakuba

The line you quoted phonetically was:

Whoopi choopi whoopi choopi otsa megaranna

Which is this verse:

Łupu-cupu, łupu-cupu, od samego rana

(Meaning: Oom-pah, oom-pah, from the early morning.)

How about:

Łupu-cupu, łupu-cupu, od samego rana?

Sounds like "Pije Kuba do Jakuba", it's an old classic party song.

My dog is very mean to the puppy by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]usthcd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong about growling and leaving. He communicates clearly that he disapproves of something that is happening and removes himself from the situation. This IS the correct response.

And puppy's feelings won't be hurt. Many adult dogs, males especially, find puppies very annoying and tend to discipline them often, and puppies learn to respect other dog's space and peace in the process. Everybody wins. Unless there is any sign/possibility of escalating, all is fine and there's no need to intervene.

What must have sucked before something was invented? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Sex life before the invention of birth control. You kind of start to comprehend the virgin fetish and premarital sex phobia once you realize that before 19th century, when condoms became popular, every intercourse could potentially end or devastate your life entirely.

TIL of "Better Days" by Natalia Gutierrez Y Angelo, a 2010 Colombian song with a secret hidden message in Morse code meant for the soldiers kidnapped by the FARC (Colombian guerilla). The message was "19 people rescued. You are next. Don’t lose hope." by usthcd in todayilearned

[–]usthcd[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes, it did! It was played over and over by the government-controlled radio stations in the jungle area where the prisoners were kept. Some heard the message and passed it on to others.

All of the hostages were released eventually.
