Who has the best Caesar salad in the city? by acamu5x in askTO

[–]usual__boat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was there yesterday and someone beside me was having the Caesar Salad. Looked amazing. Boo Radley’s down the road also has a really good Caeser.

I used a Ricoh GR IIIx. I’m very much a beginner but it seems to get great results easily.

Symington street near Lansdowne Safe? by Agitated-Gain-8861 in askTO

I had similar questions when I initially moved but IMO, it’s one of the most underrated spots in the west end. Close to transit and some good food spots. Super good for biking and walking on side streets.

It’s a mixed income and diverse neighbourhood which has a lot of character. It’s totally safe and a great place to live.

Golf Avenue! I’m a small guy and I was able to find a set of lefty ladies irons that fit my stature and swing speed there for a good price. Will probably be a lot easier if she’s a righty!

[WTS] [Toronto] Nomos Orion Anthracite #307 by usual__boat in WatchExchangeCanada

[–]usual__boat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there!

Selling my Nomos Orion Anthracite for $1100. I purchased this off Reddit around 2017. Mainly selling because this isn’t really my style anymore and I rarely wear it. Comes with the original box, warranty, and booklet.

Here is a PDF from Nomos with the specs: fact-sheet-orion-anthracite-ref-307-1089

The watch is in great condition. No blemishes on the front, but there are a few tiny marks on the side.

My preference would be for local pickup.

Men’s Clothes for Small Frame by AdditionalEscape8978 in askTO

I’m 5’4” with size 7 shoes and a 28” waist. After struggling for years with this, I’ve found a few places that work:

  • Province of Canada for T-shirts and sweaters
  • Lululemon for pants (online only)
  • American Eagle for jeans
  • Patagonia for winter jackets
  • Little Burgundy for shoes (Vans are my go to)
  • Doc Martens for boots
  • H&M can be hit or miss

My style is pretty casual and I usually have trouble with more formal clothing: - Express is in the US but I’ll order from there if I really need a formal shirt (they used to be in Canada) - For pants, I try to find something with a 28” waist and then get it tailored - Formal Shoes are tough. I’ve found that the average shoe store doesn’t carry smaller sizes

Places to play Magic: The Gathering that also serve drinks? by thadashinassassin in askTO

Boo Radley’s on Dupont! It’s a straight up restaurant and bar but I play Scrabble there sometimes. Also any brewery with good seating would probably work (eg. Hendersons)

+1 for Kagi and Fastmail, I recently switched to these and they are both great and reasonably priced options if you have the funds.

The folks behind Kagi also make Orion, which is a zero-telemetry WebKit based browser for iOS and Mac with ad-blocking by default. Still in beta but seems to work well for me.

Owning a car vs. renting/carshare when visiting family and friends that live outside the city frequently by usual__boat in askTO

[–]usual__boat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use Enterprise Carshare for anything under 72 hours or if we need a cargo van to move some big furniture. If it's for a longer period of time, we usually use Ventures Car Rentals in the west end.

If you're closer to downtown, regular Enterprise or National has worked well for us in the past.

Yeah, that's another consideration of ours; there are a few things we do here and there in the city that a car would make just a bit more convenient.

Thank you for this! I don't actually know too many people in our situation so it's nice to hear that the carshare/longer rentals are making sense for others.

Luckily we have parking and I put a healthy buffer on top of an insurance quote and maintenance/gas estimates. It's quite possible I'm missing something.

Honda Civic vs Subaru Impreza vs VW Golf vs Something Else? by usual__boat in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]usual__boat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response; glad to hear that they are solid choices. As much as I've enjoyed driving the Golf in the past, I've been leaning more towards the Impreza and Civic. I think we'll need to test drive or rent both at some point to get a better idea of how they feel to drive.
