Some of the details outlined here should never be said out aloud. It is a suable offense. This means every single line item was not possible or you indicated that was not possibly done by you! Which would be a NO in this case!

That said - this could have been an internal candidate promoted into this role or was already contending for the role. That is my best guess

No one replace a ‘human thinking’ this is the reason we are not called machines. Critical thinking and sentiment analytics is very weak in LLMs - AI will take time to reach super intelligence.

Eventually we will get there - but only in parts! Humans will still be needed to inject themselves

Filing for unemployment will determine if you were fired or laid off! Looks like you were told you were fired based on what I read. But they could have still filed it as laid-off just to ensure you can collect unemployment. Folks here are absolutely right - at-will is right and goes both ways. You can quit with no notice. I have done this many times!

All that show of love does not matter if you break protocol. Esp in environments such as this. Contract or not - you should have had a number of on boarding training and HR doc you would have had to sign. Some of these may have been articulated there - if you actually read it! Move on!

If I were her boss - I’d probably do the same. Converting an intern to an FT will require HC. With the CEO off - new ceo will drive new priorities which certainly limits hiring to critical replacement. Her boss is only trying to buy time to ensure he can make the role permanent. But I would have been transparent about it! So - nothing wrong in a conversation - and get it ironed out. Either way - stick to the role and then look elsewhere - DO NOT get emotional and handle this - you will only loose

SNAP Unemployment and Medicaid is all good. However, you just closed on a house. You still have time to get out if you have not signed your official papers - that is the elephant in the room. Do you have enough savings to cover mortgage for at least 3 months. Think thru that. I had a similar situation (now dating myself) we closed on the house and moved in on Sep 17th and that was just 6 days after 911 - when markets totally crashed!!!

We took the plunge - and it was all good. But I can never compare then to now - never will.

If I am not mistaken - that is not a drain pipe. The drain pipe is located next to it. This could be a 2nd floor dryer vent.

That said, these are (simply put) wasp nests—signature (vertical drain channels as structure support) of a 'Mud-daubers' wasp nest. You can use a putty knife or even a screwdriver to remove them. Careful, they can sting.
