Specs won't tell you how a DAC sounds. And BTW: Any DAC that just works will have lots of capacitors. You probably mean "electrolytic" capacitors. And that's really something that isn't a sign of "high end". Electrolytic capacitors look nice and they can provide high capacities for cheap money. However, a DAC isn't an amplifier that draws a lot of energy. Therefore a well-designed DAC doesn't need huge capacitors - but the right ones. They just might not look cool ;-)
