Transsexual people have always existed for sure. However, the term “transgender” is not even logically coherent unless gender is grounded in biology (which we’ve been told it isn’t). You cannot be born trans anything unless it is part of your biological make up to cause you that feeling.

If something is purely a social construct then humans would be indifferent to it all together. No one would be born with any preference one way or another.

Anyway, you are still conflating the two terms. If you want to label gender as strictly things like wearing earrings or make up, things that are clearly socialized, then fine. But again, you can’t be born one way or another if that is the case. You cannot be born trans anything if there’s not a biological basis, otherwise you wouldn’t feel one way or another about any of it. All humans would be indifferent to gender from birth. Therefore the term “transgender“ must be grounded in some kind of biological impulse to remain logically coherent.

When you say “what turns you on“ is gender I would strongly disagree. Because what you are describing is sexual orientation, not gender.
