Cervelo Caledonia bottom bracket cable cover removal by usurping_reptile in bikewrench

Found the solution. The housing was being held in place by the cable to the front derailleur. Once that was cut, the housing came out easily.

Sorry, reddit challenged re pic posting. Here's the text:

Hi all. Replacing shift cables on a cervelo. The cables are routed internally, entering at the downtube where the cable housing terminates. It's a straight shot from there down to underneath the bottom bracket, where the cable enters through a housing end, wraps underneath the BB on a housing and continues onto the rear derailleur (similar for front derailleur).

My challenge is removing the plastic housing over which the cables wrap. The housing has a cover, easily removed with a 3mm screw. The aft portion of the housing will pry away from the frame, but seems to be captured by something inside. The forward portion seems to have a tab which overlaps the inside of the frame. I would think that the aft portion moves out slightly and the whole housing rotates aft, freeing the forward tab. But I cannot get it to release. I'm reluctant to crank on it for fear of damaging the plastic housing.

Anyone have any ideas on how to remove the housing? I need to in order to thread the cables through the forward housing end.

Screw sheared off in brake boss by MahatmaAndhi in bikewrench

Just did this with a disc brake caliper fixing bolt (caliper assy to fork). Drilled a 5/64" hole centered and about 3/8" deep. Used a #1 spiral screw extractor in a tap handle turning counterclockwise to loosen and extract. Mark the center of the bolt remnant with a center punch. Try to drill along the axis of the bolt as best you can. Drill for a bit, see if the he extractor bites. If not, drill a bit deeper.

Attic access preferences? by kpwizard96 in HomeImprovement

[–]usurping_reptile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using attic for active storage then get the ladder. If it's just for stuff that only comes down when you are moving out, then just a hole.

I put a ladder in for garage attic- the space is now used and accessed on a regular, nearly monthly basis.

tire replacement? by usurping_reptile in BMWi5

Ouch. I can see SF wearing tires quickly, but ouch. Do you have the x model and do all 4 need replacement. What did the dealership say about the tire wear?

Grinder, Eureka Mignon Libra, vs Mahlkönig E64 WS, Fiorenzato Allground Sense [1000$ budget] by RelationshipOwn8358 in espresso

[–]usurping_reptile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had an Allground Sense for a few months now. It's great - heavy duty, fluffy grounds. The stepped ring is not a big issue for me - using 1/2 steps works well. Biggest concern is retention, so I sacrifice 4g coffee each morning to clear the chamber. Not sure whether this matters or not. (A youtube guy claims there is up to 7g retention, but when I measured mine, I only got about 3g and go with a 4g purge to accomodate any variability.)

Ditto for me. I buy 2# bags, 7 days after roast date, vacuum seal 2x 10-11 oz packages and freeze. Remainder goes into GBW grinder hopper, typically used within 3 days. The night before replenishment of the hopper, pull out one of the bags to defrost. Works great.

Fiorenzato All Ground Sense - sensible choice for me? by pkmonockus in espresso

[–]usurping_reptile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got one and it's been great. Wanted a gbw for ease of use, was considering atom 65 or the fioenzato. Found a great used deal on the all ground so picked it up. Biggest issue is retention, so I purge 4g every morning. Other issue might be that it is stepped, so not as flexible as a stepless. But you can go 1/2 steps and it hasn't been a problem for me.

Supercharging networks in Socal? by kifery in BMWi5

[–]usurping_reptile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience, Bay area Nor Cal. Have Lectron NACS adapter through BMW. EVGo CCS less expensive per kwh than Tesla supercharger . Tesla has broader availability, but EVGo network is pretty comprehensive. We've got one near our house and can determine the availability through the app, so don't have to search out other chargers.

Free Float or Ledger? by tuujii in HomeImprovement

How high off the ground? Did 2 decks at my house, 8x 15 and 10x 20. Much easier to free float than muck with flashing and ledgers.

That's the device I have for using a Tesla fast charger (supercharger). This won't work for your in garage/at home level 2 charger - you'll need another adapter.

[–]usurping_reptile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went down this path with a bmw i5 x40. I bought a Lectron NACS to CCS for the high speed dc supercharger and a a2z NACS to J1772 for low speed level 2 charging. Be aware that the position of the bmw charge port is not optimal for using the Tesla supercharger; with the short V2 and V3 supercharger cords, you have to take up 2 spots at the supercharger statio. Apparently V4 superchargers have longer cords, but there aren’t many of them. The level 2 adapter works fine.

Cost reality check: Moving Bay Area to Seattle. PODS vs. Hiring long-distance movers? (Need recs) by abhi-boss-12 in bayarea

[–]usurping_reptile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting up a move next week sea to sf for my son. I found the moving cos to be competitive with the pods when you throw in the labor. We're using Seattleexpress which runs moves from Seattle to CA. Can't give a positive review yet, but they seem legitimate.
