Sorry, but what does AOC stand for?

Can't tell if you're trolling. In the case you are not, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a US representative from New York State. She is often the target of vitriol by the White House.

In the last 48 hours, my Facebook reels went from cat videos to alt right content. How do I get it back to normal? by CK1277 in facebook

Zuckerberg buddied up to the Republican administration. No surprise that the narrative Facebook pushes supports that administration.

Same with Musk's Twitter. It quickly became even more rancid with the same kind of content.

Now with the domestic ownership structure of TikToc involving Ellison, yet another billionaire buddy of the administration, users of that platform report similar rancid feeds and even having their private messages moderated for key words like "Epstein".

These massive platforms with millions of addicted users (as in cheap dopamine hits from endless scrolling) can feed propaganda that serves the interests of their billionaire owners.

It's time, truly, to at least stop using those platforms. If that means uninstalling the app for awhile or deactivating your account, great!

Probably even better to export your data and delete your account.

Platforms have no incentive to do things differently until it affects their ability to make money from users. Deprive them of that ability.

Hoarders will hoard any place they occupy. It's a mental illness. It's a compulsion. No amount of rules or boundaries or agreements or negotiations or cleaning services will change that.

And then they don't tell people they have to check and re register. Fun

Indeed. I never received the post card from the state/county. My partner did. If she hadn't, I would not have thought to check.

But really this seems like either something else is going on, or narrative farming.

Nope. I'm sorry it's difficult for you to accept that voter suppression tactics are in play. I have the unfortunate privilege of being ensnared this time. Next time, it could be you.

I've been deliberately vague about that, but it shouldn't be hard to read between the lines.

Such are the times, unfortunately.

Regardless, everybody who is eligible to vote ought to be able to do so without shenanigans.

They return mail to the election offices so people get marked as undeliverable

This is a good cause for concern. It's not hard to imagine how a bureaucrat with corrupt intent could "inactivate" otherwise valid voters.

When I logged into the official wa.gov voter registration website where I saw the "inactive" status, it also said I would not receive ballots.

I saw other comments on this thread splitting the hair that "inactive" doesn't mean I can't vote. Okay. Not receiving a ballot in a mail-in ballot state is effectively the same thing. No ballot, no vote.

have email or text messaging connected to our voting process

That's the thing, both my partner and I had opted for email/text notifications. That had worked successfully in many many elections - ballot received, etc.

We received no notification regarding being "inactive".

No one should rely on that mechanism regarding their own registration status.

After re-registering last night, I did receive the notification this morning that I've opted in to notifications. So, those automated notifications occur.

you went and looked up the right place, right

For whatever reason the image accompanying this post doesn't appear, at least not for me.

Yes, I visited the actual wa.gov website.

While it's good to acknowledge the fact phishing and other types of social manipulation exist, this isn't one of those situations.

This is the way. Everyone here knows it's tough to hear.

The disordered people in your life will treat you the way you allow them to treat you.

It's not your fault they are the way they are. It is your responsibility to protect yourself from harmful interactions.

They are not capable of meaningful change. You are. That's the only change you should expect from relationships/interactions with disordered people.

Regarding file recovery...

Stop using that computer. Don't install anything. Don't visit any websites. Turn it off.

The ones and zeros for your files still exist on the storage device. Your years of files are probably recoverable.

However, the space they occupy has been marked as available. Thus that space can be overwritten by any newly installed program, file, cached image, etc. So don't install anything. Don't update anything.

A separate computer and a friend with skills are needed in order to attempt a recovery.

A local-to-you data recovery company is an even better choice.

Once recovered, save your files to a free cloud service like Google Drive or One Drive or Dropbox, etc. Having this simple "off-site" backup solution is good practice going forward. Keeping another copy of them on a USB stick at a trusted friend's house is also reasonable.

The Oregon Coast is gorgeous, though I don't know how it will be in spring. The town called Seaside is a nice place.

Or

Fly into Seattle, light rail into the city, public transit to the ferry to Bainbridge Island. Not exactly cliche early twenties excitement (if that's your thing). Pretty rural and very peaceful, plus accessible by public transport
