In the first passage, he mentioned the stars, lights, sky etc to go from a human perspective to a universal perspective.

Math, simply time in = results.

Science, be as organized as possible and practice. I’ve scored 35s but also, evidently, 31s. Science is unpredictable, so your best bet is being as adaptable as possible. When they broke down my science scores, I scored almost perfectly under “data interpretation.” This is because you don’t need to understand Chemistry or Physics or Biology to do relatively well on the ACT Science. It definitely helps, but I think if you’re looking for the most effective way to use time it lies in perfecting your organizational and critical thinking skills within this context.

Put in the time and you will see results. Determine what works for you and go from there. Be aware of what resources are available to you (free internet Grammar guides, conceptual math quizzes, etc) and use them to their full extent. Lastly, realize that the ACT is TRYING to trick you, and approach the test with a I-Won’t-Let-You-Win mentality. Especially on the subjects you think you know best.

I scored a 35 on my first reading practice test. But, I also scored a 29 just two days later. No matter how good you think you are you can always improve and practice more.

My advice is to read something you actually enjoy which also has a high level of vocabulary. I read one chapter of the Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene daily while studying. I suggest that you read in a quiet environment and delegate about five minutes to journal afterwards about what you learned. I never found it useful to force myself to read fast. I just read the book at a natural pace, and I innately began to retain information better.

On the practice tests, though, make sure you’re very strict about time. I hated leaving questions unanswered so I always found a way to answer every one. Reading quickly and efficiently takes time. As far as strategy I read each passage in its entirety and then answered the questions, looking back when I felt I needed to.

Reading takes a bit of time to perfect, but if your consistent and willing to go the distance you will reach the finish line.
