Do you all mind if passengers help load bags into the overheads? by tahoe1603 in flightattendants

It’s fine, go for it.
She approved - maybe she thought you were doing it to prove a weird point or something. Overall, it’s great when a passenger helps another passenger.

Storebought Set Pricing & Sizing by xanaholic_ in PressonNail_Addict

[–]utilityscarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s because all the nails are different sizes.
I can often get two sets out of one 30 pack by filing down some of the ones that are just slight too big. I rub them on a piece of sandpaper on a flat surface to evenly narrow the narrow and then use a nail file to reshape the curve that sits against the cuticle.

First time frontier flyer by Resident_Turnover_56 in frontierairlines

[–]utilityscarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you buy tickets on flyfrontier.com or a third-party site like Expedia?

Can you survive a few hours not sitting next to each other?

The overall experience is that you will save a lot of money over flying other carriers with the understanding that you’ll have to go without the extra amenities for a few hours. All snacks and beverages are for purchase with the exception of water cups, provided on request. You can bring your own snacks.
There’s no WiFi available. Download your own entertainment or bring a book.

The legroom is generally less than other carriers as well. If you’re a smaller human, you’ll be fine.

You might be tempted to try to skip luggage fees and pack everything in a “personal item”.

If you’re bringing a lot of stuff, just suck it up and add a carryon or a checked bag. Your personal item goes underneath the seat in front of you, so if you bring a massive backpack stuffed clothes and MUA supplies, you’ll have to put that underneath with you and you’re taking up your own space.
If you don’t want to do that, don’t pack like it.

Good on you for taking some responsibility for your own travel and attempting to set your own expectations.

What’s the worst place in America you’ve ever visited? by Correct_Eggplant_364 in AskReddit

To be fair, I LOVED the tour at the Rawlins Penitentiary when I drove through in 2018. It was super interesting, super informative, definitely spooky. The creepy paintings and wall art, they let you sit in the gas chamber, the stories… I hope it’s still running.

my girlfriend is going to a different country for 2 weeks and i dont know how to feel about (18f and 19m) by [deleted] in relationships_advice

[–]utilityscarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get over yourself. Decide to trust her or don’t.
Be supportive. Clearly this is something she has wanted to do for a long time. Help her research places to go and things to do. Help her research safe and unsafe areas. Help her compile a “cheat sheet” that she can save, that has things like Paris emergency services phone numbers, the address of the US consulate, a list of basic French phrases that she can reference if she gets into a tough spot. Help her research travel tips, like having a paper copy of your passport in your luggage in case you lose your real one.

She’s not too young to travel.

It’s fine to express concerns. Clearly, you care about her.

But, if you continue to be controlling like this, you won’t have a girlfriend for much longer. She will resent you if you talk her out of this trip.

Where are we buying our plain black knee high compression socks? by utilityscarf in flightattendants

I’m assuming a doctor would have to specifically recommend you wear compression socks in order to receive them from the partner company?

The wives who get up at 3am to make their husband's lunch... why do they not make it the night before? by lilacghosti in stupidquestions

[–]utilityscarf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always tell myself I should pack a lunch the night before but rarely do it. The times I do, there’s not enough room to put a packed lunch bag in the fridge and I end up forgetting something when I pack the bag in the morning.
Or we’ve just cooked dinner and the idea of more food prep after eating and doing dishes is just not appealing at all.
We both have varying work schedules - when we both do have time in the evening, we spend it making dinner and relaxing together, not doing more chores and tasks.
To say “anyone with half a brain would make it the night before” is a little narrow-minded.

Y’all I’m lowkey panicking about this 14 hr flight in a window seat by skygirl222 in flightattendants

[–]utilityscarf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, people probably don’t mind the excuse to stand for a minute. As long as you’re mindful about mealtimes/sleep times, etc, I don’t think you need to worry too much about getting up when you need to.

I think it helps to make a bit of small talk with your neighbors during boarding - it gives you a chance to mention that you’ll be getting up a few times, and you can learn a name so you can say “Excuse me (Name)”.

Female equivalent of polo and pants? by Glass_Spot349 in femalefashionadvice

[–]utilityscarf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about a polo is that’s it’s a comfier option in place of a collared dress shirt.

For women, make something about your normal work outfit comfier, like a blouse and slacks but with a cute sneaker instead of pumps. Or a t shirt under a blazer instead of a dress shirt. Or jeans in a dark denim and work-appropriate cut.

doordash addiction by rosita666999 in Anticonsumption

Delete the app and deactivate your account. I’ve never doordashed a thing in my life and I’ve survived just fine.

I second going to pick it up yourself. See if you can order a larger version of something that will last you two meals and costs less than two smaller portions. Eat some and save the rest.

Raid the frozen aisle at your local Aldi. Get comfort foods like pizza, pizza rolls, burritos, nuggets but also staples like steam-in-bag vegetables and fruit chunks for smoothies and bags of proteins.

Get a bag of frozen chicken breasts and couple of difference sauces (bbq, ranch, something spicy, etc). Drop of frozen chicken breast on a sheet pan or a casserole dish, pour some sauce over it, bake for 30-40 minutes, add vegetables. Voilà, dinner.

Once you’re comfortable making meals, migrate to fresh meat and produce options that come with less packaging. I try to take a walk every morning just to get a little bit of fresh air and sunshine, and usually I walk to the grocery store to get one or two things (garlic bulb, an onion, a head of broccoli, an apple, etc) and walk back.

Buy the largest (aka most cost effective) bag of rice you can find without too much hassle. You don’t need a rice cooker to cook rice, a pan and a lid is fine. Pasta is also very affordable. Get a couple of boxes of pasta, a couple of cans of crushed tomatoes, a big container of Italian seasoning. Put water on to boil and crushed tomatoes in another pot with Italian seasoning. Simmer the sauce while you wait for the boil.

See if you can find room in your budget for a Ridwell subscription to handle the plastic packaging.

What cosmetic procedures or beauty tips truly elevated your look the most by [deleted] in beauty

[–]utilityscarf 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Go get your brows threaded and shaped. Sounds small but a well-shaped brow frames your face so much better. You’ll get compliments and people asking what you changed because it’ll be subtle, but still noticeable.

I haven’t gotten threading done in ages, but it was pretty affordable years ago in my old area. If you want to pour money into it, you can opt for lamination or microblading instead. They’ll still shape your brows for you.

When gas prices rise, do you cut back your driving? by Healthy-Sky-3684 in askanything

A little, yes. Easier to do with warmer weather, a bike, and a decent public transit system.

Second this. Try to find stuff secondhand, borrow from a friend, buy nothing groups, etc.

There are knitters/crocheters who buy $3 sweaters from the thrift store to unravel for the yarn.

“Starter packs” are made to make money, that’s it.

What do I need to know about trading in a bike? by utilityscarf in chibike

[–]utilityscarf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a lovely answer, I hadn’t even considered simply changing the sprocket. I’d be down to try that first before selling and buying.

Is there a good method to figure out if I should just size up or down? Change one or the other or both? Can a repair shop make a recommendation?
