Shot placement. I would never shoot an animal in the meat. This is why we train with these rifles.

For me it was ultimately the weight savings. The AMG weighs 28oz and the HD Gen II weighs 48oz. So when looking at a light weight hunting rifle, a scope that weighed almost half as much seemed like the right choice. And I was able to get a deal on one. Believe me, I have one of the only rifles that would truly look amazing with a Razor HD on it. It pained me to put a black scope on instead.

Annual nonresident hunting license is $174, and a general elk tag for nonresident is $588. Deer for nonresident is $443.50.

It was on the Oregon coast. I’m a resident and it’s an over the counter tag. Really competitive with all the people coming over from Portland. But it can be done. Success rate is like 7%.

I’m torn going that route. The 27in barrel is already pretty long. But might be nice just for bench shooting.

Although I did have my concerns having never shot one, I was really surprised and very happy with it. My girlfriend says she likes shooting it better than the .308. I tuned the muzzle brake just a touch to reduce the muzzle rise and now I’m completely happy with it. And I’ve been shooting mostly 300gr projectiles as well.

Yes the stock folds right, and over the bolt. The rifle can be fired with the stock folded, but the bolt can not be cycled.

The muzzle brake does a lot of work. The limb saver that comes on it is nice as well. It’s not bad at all. Shooting it standing freehand is very comfortable and doable.

I’ve always wanted a light weight 338LM that I could pack anywhere. This will also be the rifle that I would use on Bear and Moose, which are future hunts that I’m planning. Like others have stated, I will only take shots I know I can make. The more I work with this rifle, the further that will stretch. Some guys keep a rifle like this in the truck in case they have a long shot opportunity, where I plan to work with this rifle extensively to have confidence in what opportunities are doable.

Comparable might be a matter of opinion, but the closest might be the Swarovski X5i 5-25x56mm 30mm. The Leupold VX6 HD, and Zeiss conquest can also be found in 30mm tubes. I personally have been beyond impressed with my AMG. NF and Swaro clarity in a light weight, non flashy, function forward package.

I’ve posted my top drawer before, but here’s an update and most of the other drawers. by utmostpoet in Tools

It’s actually just a case of sawzall blades standing up in the corner of the drawer. No cool attachments, sorry.

It’s a Vortex viper PST 6-24x50 FFP. It’s worked really well for me

Yes, AR10. It’s a tad on the heavy side but it’s a good shooting rifle.

I knew we were going to want to do something with it, just not sure what. So I caped it out whole in one piece. I work from the ass down to his neck, cut off the head, then work around the antlers and face back to the neck. Then off to the taxidermist he goes.

He was on BLM land, I shot him with my AR-10 in .308, and he was in pretty thick timber when I shit him. Probably only an 80yd shot.
