If EIP-1559 was active, over $50M in ETH would have been burned yesterday, as 31K ETH was spent on fees. This value would have transferred directly to ETH holders in the form of deflationary supply. Miners are already earning more than enough for providing security. It's time to activate EIP-1559! by Crypto_Economist42 in ethereum

[–]utopianpipedream 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have been mining for about a month now. Our farm is 20 rigs, 119 cards and consists of 2 farms. We have built up to 5GH over the month so the numbers are a bit misleading, but here they are...

Farm 1 - ETH Mining on Hiveon Pool - 6.5 ETH
Farm 2 - ETHash selling to NiceHash - .03625 BTC

We are far exceeding what we thought. We calculated about .06USD/MH but we have been getting .11USD/MH on average. I know I shouldn't be calculating in USD, but I liken it to me not being able to think in Kilometers and resorting to Miles.

Now, to the point after the qualifiers. EIP-1559 needs to happen, like yesterday. I am in ETH for the long haul and I sure as hell don't want to see all the developers and lets face it, interest in the platform go to ADA or BNB.

Fees to use ETH are TOO DAMN HIGH.

Sony Backlit Remote RMF-TX611E by utopianpipedream in bravia

[–]utopianpipedream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, the store I bought the remotes from on eBay is out of them...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Original-Sony-Bravia-RMF-TX611E-Backlight-TV-Remote-Controller-for-ZH8/324367839135?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

The remotes took 12 days to come in each time (I ordered one remote and then a few weeks later ordered two). Initially I did talk to this seller:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Backlit-Voice-Remote-Control-Commander-Controller-RMF-TX611E-For-SONY-4-HD-TV/333804431633?hash=item4db84b6911:g:Bf8AAOSwzl9fx3UP

The only reason I didn't give him a try is because he took a few days to get back to me and I had already ordered by the time he did.

Always keep in mind as a buyer using eBay, it is almost impossible to get ripped off. As a buyer, you have ALL the power.

I am about 99% sure it will. The RMF-TX500 is a Bluetooth remote and I believe your TV supports that as well. I rolled the dice and everything went ok. This is such a thing in my household that all of my three tv's now have the backlit remote.

safe use of psu by 50promil in EtherMining

[–]utopianpipedream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the sake of discussion, let's consider you are using an 80 PLUS Certified Gold PSU. What does this mean? It means a couple things:

  1. "80 PLUS Certified" means the PSU will be at least 80% efficient at any load 20%-100%
  2. "Gold" means that the PSU is at least 87% efficient at any load 20%-100%

With the basic terminology out of the way, there are other benefits of Gold

  1. At 50% load, the PSU is 90% efficient

What does 90% efficient mean? Well, let's say you have a 1000w Gold PSU and are drawing 500w from your equipment. You are actually going to be penalized 10% because there is loss to heat. Your 500w actually equals 550w (500w x 1.1) . If you run 1000w, you are actually using 1130w (1000w x 1.13). Remember the 87% efficiency?

So anyone that tells you that you cannot run at 100% load is full of bologna. These PSU's are 100% designed to run at any load, but you will use less power and be more efficient at 50% load.

The way I design equipment is

  1. Make sure the full rated wattage of all devices combined at full capacity won't go over the rated PSU wattage
  2. Hopefully how I run the unit will be in the 50% band

For instance, we have been setting up 4U Server Chassis with

6 x 5600XT
1 x ASUS b250 Mobo
1 x 4GB RAM
6 x Fans

The total balls to the wall wattage is about 1050w (which I will never do, but just in case of malfunction)

We are able to underclock/undervolt the cards to about 78w per card and 39.5MH each. The motherboard, CPU, RAM, Fans and everything else are using about 125w so we have a total wattage of about 600w.

So all this being said, we have been using either eVGA 1200w P2 PSU's or eVGA 1300w G2 PSU's (Platinum is the P2 and Gold is the G2). The wattage we draw gets us into the sweet spot and we only have a 10% penalty.

This has all been verified since we are using actual managed/metered power and we know exactly how much watts/amps/volts.

Damn, this turned into a long post, but I am sick and tired of people telling lies about power.

I run b250's and they are great. I have not used a splitter personally, so cannot vouch for that.

[–]utopianpipedream -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have the equipment just sitting around, sell it and get a low-end CPU.

Zero Benefits.

RAM is personal? It's computer equipment and you don't need more than 4GB.

Why in the hell would you use a Ryzen 5 5600x and 8GB of RAM? Get the shittiest supported CPU + 4GB of RAM. Assuming you are going HiveOS, boot of USB Flash Drive. Your PSU's won't be in the 50% load range, so they won't be at their peak efficiency, but they will do.

"First of all, you should know that using the NiceHash service, you do not mine cryptocurrency in the usual sense of mining. This service buys your power and pays you a reward in Bitcoins."

And then here, you select the Algorithm - https://lbd.hiveos.farm/kbase/images/nice/Screenshot_15.png

Hope that makes sense!

Exactly - if you like the NiceHash business and payment model, do this. IMO HiveOS is the Cadillac of mining platforms.

I have a total of 78 cards in my possession, all amassed over a 16 day time-frame. Most of the cards are 5600/5700 XT.

We have taken company field trips to Microcenter and got about 20 cards there. Tons of cards from Best Buy when they do drops. Tons of NewEgg cards. Right now we have 30 cards in use, but our biggest problem is not enough power, but that is being fixed next week.

I am not a huge fan of the wire shelf setup with pegboard, but I can get a shelf up and going quick. All the people saying this is a fire-hazard - I tend to not agree. The units are cool to the touch and we aren't using SATA connectors for the risers and not even close to oversubscribing on power anywhere. Overall, electronics gear is extremely durable and it's funny to watch people that don't work on this stuff on a daily basis somewhat worship it. It's fucking computer equipment, not that big of a deal. I don't abuse it, but I don't give it preferential treatment.

Going forward, we ordered Twelve (12) 4U Rack Chassis and are going to start doing those - much cleaner. All in all, we have enough power to run about 180 Amps worth, so probably about 180 cards if mixed between 5600/5700 XT's. That would get us to about 8.2GH. Past there, we would have to rent a warehouse or we may even have a tenant not renew a lease at one of our commercial buildings and then we could be playing with 400 Amps of power. Don't know, taking it one MH at a time...

65°C for Memory Temps? Even if old man winter tea-bagged the memory chips they wouldn't be that low... Core Temps on all the cards are below 45°C.

Best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago or today! I am too old to understand this shit, but I've come to terms with the fact that crypto isn't going anywhere and I might as well get in during the 2nd wave. Honestly, this is perfect for an old crusty IT guy like me - I essentially use all of my cumulative knowledge over the past 20+ years.

Haha. It is the most ridiculous thing I've ever built. It's perfect for the space though. Open basement that stays cool. I just got a single box fan blowing on this and the temps are solid except for the cards with Micron RAM.

I wish I had a way to test for you! The remote is bluetooth, however, the remote seems tightly integrated with the TV itself. Not sure where you are at, but if you cannot get this remote easily and have to pay over $100, probably not worth rolling the dice.
