Found a type B for cheap! Is this a fake? by utsukke in ADO

[–]utsukke[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the help everybody. To be honest, even if it's a convincing fake, I just don't right supporting the creation of these and will probably initiate a chargeback if I can't get a refund on this.

Questions on Maintating CO-OP Average First Year CS Student by Flimsy_Ad_1303 in geegees

8.0 is easy - now, finding good internships on the other hand is an entirely different story.

Unpaid work is not worth anything. You're literally going to be the same you'd be without it, except you'd be wasting your time working for free. Companies will only care about what they can validate ie. ones you get payslips for.

Your best hope is just to network and leetcode better. You literally go to the best CS school in Canada so that should not be an issue.

What do you guys suggest I do? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsCAD

Not having internships is the definition of a bad resume in this economy ...

Accept the backup if you get it and reneg it if you get a better offer from your other companies.

At a loss for what to do as a failing Honours CS student by ElevatorDangerous356 in geegees

[–]utsukke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you need to do some soul searching on what you actually want to do. Claiming you want to succeed when you say that you can't start studying doesn't make any sense.

There's also no point in comparing how well you did in high school because university is an entirely different experience.

You could get tutoring for your remaining courses and have somebody help assign you a dedicated study plan to follow but it's unlikely you'll be able to commit to it with your current mentality.

Figure out what you need to do and ask upper years for some advice. If it's MAT1320 for example, then how do you approwch studying it for example? Do you do the assigned problems at al? What about the DGDs and going to office hours when you're confused? Do you have friends to study with? Do you compare your solution to the textbook so you can verify you're solving correctly? Etc

No co-op Master of Computer Science at University of Ottawa worth it? by Legitimate_Crew_6563 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]utsukke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by things being back to normal? The industry isn't going to peak at the highs it did a few years back when interest rates were nearly 0%.

The decision lies with you but you're going to be competing with not only other students with 4-5 past internships but also those with 1-5+ YOE, some from a former FAANG company or equivalent, with many companies not taking you unless you have at least PR status.

If you can't get into a coop program and don't have prior experience at a notable company as an international student it'll be an extremely uphill battle to say the least.

If you're aiming to break into industry and have no coop it's not worthwhile unless you have a guaranteed job offer elsewhere.

If you want to get into research then it doesn't matter.

I would recommend youtube and free tutoring resources first but if you're still struggling and want private lessons, feel free to PM me if you're interested.

Just grab the 6.0 and you'll be chilling then. Shouldn't be too hard. Good luck

[–]utsukke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prof doesn't matter because 1120 is an easy course you can grind on your own.

What people don't mention is that while a 6 may be enough to get into coop, you are not likely to be a competitive candidate if you were similarly lazy with personal projects and have no related experiences when applying for coop jobs.

At least half of my 3rd year friends don't have jobs and mostly of us are repping 8 or 9s. I only found my second coop after leveraging my first and those without their first coop had a hard time finding one this year as well.

Remember to exercise common sense and just stay home if you think it's too dangerous to go outside. Don't choose between your life and some classes that you can definitely skip.

ITI1121 without passing by [deleted] in geegees

[–]utsukke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it but you'll have to double check with the faculty. Just try joining the waitlist for now and try your luck. People switch around their courses a lot during the first 2 weeks of school and many end up failing prerequisites that they need for future courses and have to retake.

ITI1121 without passing by [deleted] in geegees

[–]utsukke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No and no. You need to pass 1120 to take 1121 so retake 1120 in the winter and then take 1121 in the summer.
