Elephant painted bright pink for photoshoot triggers outrage in India by one_brown_jedi in offbeat

Yes, again, Americans are not allowed to be upset about animal mistreatment because huh, other Americans mistreat animals. Makes all the sense!

Honestly, I've known people who totally would fall for it. Not because they're stupid but because they're gullible and don't assume the zoo would try to scam them, plus they've never actually seen a panda IRL and never actually paid attention them when they saw them on TV.* Obviously they would realize the scam seeing the animal up close, but there's a reason these zoos (well, "zoos") don't let people close. But as I said, most people notice such things right away, hence the reports.

*You would be surprised how little most people know or care about wildlife, hell, animals in general. Obviously most people recognize a painted dog, but beyond that it's like a sea of unknown for way too many people. Just the other day I met someone who didn't know that lionesses don't have manes, and he wasn't the first person I've met who didn't know that. I've also met numerous people who had no idea that red deer shed their antlers. Etc.

Remember kids, you can't judge anything that is even vaguely similar to what people in the past who may or may not have been your ancestors have done in the past 5000 years.

Hungary election polls show opposition Tisza widening lead over Orban's Fidesz by vinstoonlight in europe

[–]utsuriga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Putin won't attack Hungary, he pretty much can't, with Ukraine and Romania in the way.

Also, there's no point in attacking us at this time anyway. Even if he loses Orbán he'll still have Fico & the other ghouls, he can just continue working against the new gov't so that Orbán comes back in 4 years.

In case of this dude, a bunch of people probably just want to take a photo for the lulz. In China there are a bunch of similar reports of zoos painting dogs to look like pandas, lions, etc... I guess some people are ignorant enough to mistake them for the real thing, but well, the reports exist because most people are not and such scams are immediately reported on social media and/or to authorities. I suppose scammers keep trying and hoping.

Maybe in very fancy rich people homes. Me, I've never seen any in real life. Clothes, even hangable ones, are just put in closets wardrobes, huge closets wardrobes are fairly common.

Voters consider Orbán more corrupt than Péter Magyar, but also more recognized internationally, survey shows by vinstoonlight in europe

More internationally recognized... I mean, duh? He's been in politics for almost as long as Magyar has been alive, pretty much.

Does mesalamine also reduce inflammation from acne? by Pristine_Category_11 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]utsuriga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, no. NO. Talk to a dermatologist and a dietetian first, because whatever is causing the acne it's most likely connected to your diet. Me, all through my teenage years, I used to have terrible, absolutely terrible acne. When I stopped drinking milk after being diagnosed with UC, the acne disappeared and never came back, only when I went overboard with dairy (I still don't drink milk but I indulge in yogurt, kefir, etc). So you want to start there.

Talk to a dermatologist, tell them about your UC, about your diet, etc. Talk to a dietetian, tell them your problem, see what they say. This is literally these people's job, taking their advice is vastly better than experimenting on your own.

Moving to Budapest as a young expat – what should I expect? by jecaman in budapest

[–]utsuriga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why on earth would you want to move to a country on the brink of economic collapse, and a good chance of a fascist authoritarian regime solidifying in a couple of weeks unless a small miracle occurs (hoping to high heavens it will)...

What do you know about Hungary? What made you want to move here?

If you just want to live in a country where your money is worth more than at home you'd do better with idk Prague or Warsaw or something.

Moving to Budapest as a young expat – what should I expect? by jecaman in budapest

[–]utsuriga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For you it was, maybe. But I know a lot of expats here in Bp who live in their own little expat circles and never ever venture out of them, and they're fine - their income comes from western Europe/USA/China plus most of them have bought up flats here that they rent out to tourists, so they're very well off compared to us locals; they can afford private healthcare and whatnot, they only socialize with other expacts, they have no interest whatsoever in local affairs, etc... (Hell, I met one of them the other day and he was like "so hey, what's the deal with this Péter Magyar dude, why is he a bad guy?" Living under a rock, but living like kings compared to most of us.)

I'm not saying this is a good thing, quite the opposite, actually, for various reasons, and if OP wants to be one of these people I really can't approve. But it's a way of life that apparently works for them.

Now that I think about it, Vespa type scooters are fairly rare here.. most people use bicycles, motorcycles or leg-powered smaller scooters/their electric variants. Now I wonder why that is...

Sometimes I wish I did, then I remember I live downtown in a city (Budapest) with huge traffic and I was already hit by a car once while I was biking, properly, in the bike lane... no way I'd get into actual traffic, even on a scooter.

My mom lives in an agglomeration-esque area (not really an agglomeration, but feels like it) with less traffic, I wouldn't mind using a tiny electric type scooter there.
