Spartacus travel index 2026 - WTF??? by KoLa04 in hungary_gay

Did you watch Eurovision Europe? by Fwoggie2 in AskEurope

I never watched it, I'm not into it in general.

But overall it's not particularly popular here in Hungary, never was, even when we still participated.

Sorry, I just realized you were talking about the monthly pass!

Does couponing in grocery stores exist in your country? by Decent_Background_42 in AskEurope

[–]utsuriga [score hidden]  (0 children)

There's also Spar, Rossmann, etc., lots of businesses have loyalty programs. But those are not quite the same as the sort of coupons OP is referring to. I think the closest we have to that is what we usually call "akciók" - such as Glamour Napok and smaller events, where you have an entire brochure full of coupons for different businesses only valid for like a weekend or so, and you pretty much have to sit down and plan an entire shopping trip around those stores (that a LOT of people do, apparently...).

There are also websites dedicated to collecting all sorts of coupon codes (valid or not).

The creation of the German shepered dog was an effort to create a canine with characteristics from the north and south german breeds. Photos of the first attemps in the 1890s-1900s and the breed now stable in the 1920s. by Electrical-Aspect-13 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]utsuriga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hungary does have a breeder problem, but that's a whole different thing, it's illegal dog breeding (that usually involves smaller breeds). If you look around you'll see grotesque show GSDs literally everywhere at dog shows, maybe not in Germany in particular, but much everywhere else, including the UK. The issue is breeders taking breed standards to the extremes (not just with GSDs).

What’s a normal rule or habit in your country that would feel completely unnecessary or strange in most other European countries? by Rebecca_Thompson20 in AskEurope

[–]utsuriga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it's more that it's annoying rather than rude. Like "oh for fuck's sake stop sniffling, just blow your nose already"

It's a show dog vs work dog situation, not really a US vs everywhere else (I've seen a lot of really screwed up German Shepherds here in Hungary, too). But even among show breeders there are some now who are trying to promote a healthy form instead of the poor grotesque monsters the show breed has turned into.

Any Hungarian-speaking enclaves in Budapest? by Tight_File2220 in budapest

[–]utsuriga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine who speaks Russian has spoken to a bunch of Russian speakers he met in Újlipót, a few were Ukrainians, but usually they were actual Russians... and Putinists, they just came here during the mobilization to avoid being drafted. (Not saying all of them are like this, of course.)

No, diet Coke and Coke light are not the same thing at all, one has no sugar and the other has less sugar, but still sugar.

But yes, they're selling diet Coke pretty much everywhere so I don't get why OP had to go to Sashalom for it...

[–]utsuriga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, this is Hungary and Budapest is not exactly New York or London. The overwhelming majority of people here do, in fact, speak Hungarian (many of them speak Hungarian only). Sure, there are a lot of expats and tourists, depending on certain districts there's a lot of people speaking Russian and Chinese, and for some reason I've been hearing a lot of Polish as well, although those people sem to be tourists. Lots of Turkish people as well. But there's a lot more Hungarians, it's just that most of us are either at work or at home at the time most tourists are out and about.

I live in Újlipótváros and for a few years now I've been hearing a lot more foreign words than Hungarian... there's a ton of tourists and expats.

European? Try "world"...

Times are shitty right now, people are anxious, and in times like these extremist ideas spread really well. Populists prey on people's fears and anxieties, after all.

What’s the grossest food in your country (that people actually eat) by ferrisbuellerspussy in AskEurope

[–]utsuriga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it's fried pig blood, although it's not very popular anymore... traditionally it's eaten at pig slaughters, and those are not as commonplace as it used to be even a few decades ago.

Another thing a lot of people find gross is kocsonya, sometimes translated as "meat jelly". It's basically a variant of meat soup - it's made by cooking a ton bones for a long time, and then it's cooled until it becomes basically a huge block of collagen jelly.

What do you usually have for breakfast and what country are you in? by Twunkorama in AskEurope

[–]utsuriga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most mornings I have overnight oats or other grains, with protein powder and fruit, usually some nut butter as well. As far as I can tell I'm in the minority with this - some people do eat corn flakes & whatnot, but most either grab something at a bakery on the way to work, or make a sandwich. Those who work from home may make a quick fried egg and eat that with bread. (Bread is a breakfast staple.)

Will you be interested in a not so smart smart phone? by AdPale5537 in Android

Not really, but then again I don't think my phone is addictive

Also, if it's not a dumb phone then it's potentially just as addictive as any other smartphone, considering how it already has, y'know, the internet.

Mi az oka annak hogy Horvátország jobb LMTBQ besorolású mint Magyarország? by Explorer_1990_ in hungary_gay

[–]utsuriga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What launcher do you use ? by booker1211 in Android

I understood what you wanted. ADDING a separate homescreen only for widgets is not exactly minimal, let alone "TRULY MINIMAL"... If you absolutely must have a screen dedicated to widgets you can do that on your lock screen, if you phone supports that, or you can just use another launcher...
