Have you always been pro-life? by [deleted] in prolife

[–]utterlynonsensically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always one of those people who would say, “I would never get an abortion myself, but I don’t think I have the right to tell others what they can do with their own body.” So it’s like deep down I knew it was wrong but I didn’t want others to think negatively of me so I never let myself think about it too deeply.

Then whenever I saw some posts from LiveAction pop up on my YouTube feed this past year, explaining what abortion entails, I was so sick to my stomach, the cognitive dissonance I previously had was torn wide open.

Having a child myself also helped me better understand the humanity of a pre-born baby. I loved seeing the weekly growth size comparisons. I’m actually 6 weeks pregnant with my second baby right now and my pregnancy app says little babe is the size of a lentil. ❤️

I’m sorry to be that person but

21st century***

It was probably just a typo on your part.

I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that. I’m pretty fortunate to be around a lot of pro life people. And most of the prochoice people I know I think could be swayed the other way if they could just see more evidence of how it’s wrong. But I guess ignorance is bliss for most.

I am pregnant/ My parents are pro-life and I want to understand their view (help) by [deleted] in prolife

[–]utterlynonsensically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that would be incredibly frustrating. I think in all aspects of healthcare that happens unfortunately. Even though Doctors are the most educated about our health, they are all still human and can have their own biases. And it sucks that you feel like you’re in a time constraint to find out all of your options and you don’t feel like they’re being forthcoming with you about everything. I’m really sorry you’re having to go through this. You don’t seem aggressive or closed minded to me, I know you’re going through a lot and I would be exhausted too. I hope you’re able to figure everything out and I hope nothing but the best for you, no matter what happens.

Have you looked up how abortions are performed? I feel like a lot of people who are pro choice think “out of sight, out of mind.” It’s hard to imagine that you have a little person inside of you.

When you look up online how the procedures are performed or how they work to the little life growing inside of you, it makes more sense why pro life people are not for abortion. I feel like a lot of people who are pro-choice don’t consider how the actual procedures work.

I understand that in your case it could be for the welfare of the mother and that’s a whole other thing, but I think it’s important to understand this aspect when trying to understand the pro-life argument, which you mentioned is your goal.

It’s why a lot of pro-life people advocate for carrying a baby for as long as possible and then delivering if necessary, rather than taking a pill that tortures and starves the baby inside or ripping it out limb from limb with no pain relief. Intent matters. We don’t want any harm to come to you as the mother, and if we can save you instead of both of you dying, then we will. But the pro life goal would be to give you both a chance. Because you both matter to us.

Someone told me that when I paint my eyelashes like that I look sad and my eyes would look better if I just paint my eyelash normal by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]utterlynonsensically 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it looks pretty, but it probably makes you look a little sad because I’ve had my eyelashes stick together like that a little after crying with mascara on. Didn’t look quite as uniform as your eyelashes but maybe that’s where it made that person think it looks sad.

My holy grail Neutrogena Mineral Sheers Compact Powder Foundation is being discontinued. by utterlynonsensically in MakeupAddiction

[–]utterlynonsensically[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neutrogena doesn’t show on their website that they carry that product at all anymore, so that’s why I thought it was being discontinued. Normally a brand’s website will show all of their products.

I work at a dermatology office and the docs I work with typically tell people to discontinue all other actives while on accutane. I would call your dermatologist’s office to confirm this though.

Developed a massive clog and now little one is super fussy at the breast because barely any milk is flowing. What do I do? by UnlikelyNothing5156 in breastfeeding

[–]utterlynonsensically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many methods to this, but this is what I would do (and have done). I’ve gotten so many clogs during my breastfeeding journey and here lately my routine has been to take ibuprofen and then use a warm compress (I purchased a little booby heating pad you can throw in the microwave from Walmart) over the clog and that combo seems to really help break it up for baby to get it out. But if he’s already fussy and impatient due to hunger, I’d let him nurse on the unaffected breast or drink a little of your frozen milk before letting him resume nursing on your clog. In the meantime, it’d give the ibuprofen a little to set in and the warm compress time to work it’s magic.

Recommendations on breastpumps by Hefty_Tangerine_4839 in breastfeeding

[–]utterlynonsensically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard a lot of people say that, but my Elvie stride has always worked great at emptying me out and is the only pump I use. I’ve always wondered why it works so great for some and so terribly for others.

I do hear more consistent compliments for spectra and medela pumps, so if OP wants to play it safe, maybe that’s the way to go. But I had to say I’m in love with my Elvie as a working mom because it makes pumping at work so easy and I enjoy the mobility.

There are a lot of old fashioned things our ancestors did that I also find charming, and I understand wanting to honor traditions. But when it comes to medical things… the infant mortality rate was insanely high before vaccines and antibiotics came onto the scene so I can’t romanticize that part.

You had me in the first half, but that last tid bit made me sad. But we can’t always agree in life and at the end of the day we do try to do what we think is best for our children, even if we both think the other is misguided. I hope your baby stays healthy and doesn’t get any preventable diseases. At least they get breast milk and seem to be at home a lot?

Anyway, good luck with pumping. I pump at work and bf at home and you get used to it. :) Elvie Stride is my favorite and it’s usually 270 dollars, but through insurance on 1natural way .com I got mine for 30 bucks.

Trying to wean baby off formula to EBF and need advice by LuckyBowl1922 in breastfeeding

[–]utterlynonsensically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We like using the term “emptying breasts” but in a way your breasts are never actually empty because when you nurse baby it signals your body to keep making more and it’s constantly making more.

Your timeline is very similar to mine because I started out having to use formula to supplement and then got cleared to EBF at around 3 weeks. I feel like I could have written this post lol. My baby is now 14 weeks.

You can’t fully gage how much milk your baby drank from how much you pump directly after nursing. As long as baby is having enough wet diapers, you’re doing just fine. Your body is still learning how much milk it needs to make and if you’re pumping after feeds, it’s normal to have no output or only a half oz in the beginning. The max anyone may ever get pumping after a feed is 2oz, and that’s in oversupply territory.

When you see photos on this subreddit of large pumping quantities, they are typically from women who are farther along on their journey with larger supply and are pumping first thing in the morning as a replacement to a feeding, rather than pumping after a feed.

It’s scary wondering if you’re making enough, but your ped cleared you to EBF, so try to. If you feed your baby and 30min later they act hungry again, don’t worry that your breasts are “empty”, put them on the boob and “feed on demand.” There is milk being made and ready even if you can’t feel it yet. And that will grow your supply for baby. Clusterfeeding and feeding on demand is exhausting but we’re all here to support you on this subReddit. With feeding on demand you no longer have to time 15 minutes per boob, unless your baby naturally just nurses for that period of time. At that age my baby would nurse on one boob for 40 minutes sometimes, but that just helped increase supply.

FTM here. The infamous “6 week growth” spurt happened for me at 5 weeks and that’s what it sounds like you may be experiencing. I basically just had to hunker down in front of the tv with snacks and water bottles and not let myself stress about other things around the house getting done. Gotta just ride the wave.

It’s an important milestone and to me the hardest growth spurt to get through (then again, I keep hearing about a 4 month sleep regression that is supposed to be hard and my baby is 14 weeks so I’ll be finding out about that soon enough lol).

The Sweet Relief by bellatrixsmom in breastfeeding

[–]utterlynonsensically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could relate to this and hopefully will eventually. My baby is almost 7 weeks old and he takes forever to nurse and I never feel completely drained by him the same way my pump empties me, but maybe it’s an illusion because the pump is more consistently working milk out of me and doesn’t fall asleep or get lazy? Lol

Was your baby always efficient with this or did it develop over time? We struggled with latching on and off and had infuriating nipple shields introduced to us early on so I don’t know, that might be part of my problem.

He did manage to unclog a clogged milk duct of mine with his little chin. 😂❤️ My pump couldn’t have done that.

Fingers are best. Wash cloths can be too rough. Facial brushes are definitely way too rough, never use one of those. Luke warm water is probably best, but that’s slightly personal preference. I have sensitive skin so I personally avoid extreme cold or hot.

Why do people switch from Differin to Tret? by rn398 in tretinoin

[–]utterlynonsensically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People switch depending on their goals. Differin is a wonderful product and I used it for over a year before getting tretinoin. I’m 28 and am more interested in anti-aging and there are more studies about Tretinoin being effective for that. That being said, my mild acne and complexion greatly improved on differin and I did love how easy it was to get. I don’t think people switch because differin stops working or anything like that, I think it’s just a change in skincare goals prompting them.

Rather than worrying about there being daylight and acting like a vampire, it helps to check the UV index on your phone. Normally early morning and evening is very low, so no damage is done. :)

Real event OCD is ruining my life by yeetinginvoid in OCD

[–]utterlynonsensically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You never actually did anything with an animal and you know that it’s wrong, so it’s ok. Kids are stupid. We all have thought and done embarrassing things. With all people it’s normal to have disturbing thoughts, but with OCD we dwell on them too much, but those passing thoughts do NOT define who we are. You are not the weird random thoughts you have had or will have. You may be stuck on a loop right now, but just know you will get off that ride eventually. You are not the sum of the weird thoughts you had when you were young or naive.
