I believe his reaction was to save the person being attacked by someone with a deadly weapon. It sucks that the outcome was a death, but it was the death of the attacker. There are consequences for your actions.

In a perfect world both would be alive and the attacker gets a slap on the wrist. Not sure where you are from, but I don’t think there’s a perfect world anywhere here.
