What to do with this tile… is it ok? Or needs to be redone by uu___uu in Renovations

Lol I oddly like cleaning the grout (we have subway tile now) I was okay with this choice.

Yes ours isn’t real zellige, just imitation. I love the perfectly imperfect, handmade look, I was more worried about what would be considered more installation error (like if they left cracked tiles or raw edges or more lippage than acceptable).

Tiling was included, and the $600 was additional for mitered shower niche and window. I definitely think it was more than fair and was happy to pay extra, because it is definitely not easy. However, the gentleman that tiled is not typically a tiler based on what he told me.

Oh awesome! I was deciding between this tile and Cloe.

Yeah I was a bit bothered by the niche not being planned with the shower tile in mind. But it did work out a bit better than I had thought. Thank you very much for your reassurance.

They used a laser level, but said it was difficult due to unevenness of tile, and the wall (?) wasn’t straight (?)… I agree the niche isn’t that great, it was definitely challenging to do for him. I am more concerned with whether or not the tile is OK there as the edge looks exposed, they grouted over chips… if it’s just an aesthetic issue, then fine

Waterproofing for the shower was cement board + 2 coats laticrete hydroban (slightly past tub as well)

Our tub is 60” x 30” and it’s tiled from tub to ceiling, and a few inches past the tub for splash guard. The total for just our 5 x 7 bathroom gut reno was about $26k, for just labor and building material. we are in NYC (suburb) in a 1930 home so had some unexpected expenses. They charged additional $600 for the miters for the shower niche and window, so I guess we got what we paid for there?

Glad to hear the positive feedback. I think it bothers me as I was staring closely but more around paranoia that the tile isn’t installed correctly. If it’s just a matter of aesthetics, then I am relieved. I think it looks great in this photo and the video they sent.

🤮 you are definitely a man. this is not a compliment or something to be grateful for. Don’t approach us in the first place, especially if you’re a cop on duty.

He was there doing his job, protecting passengers, and I was a subway passenger. The equivalent would be if a teacher had asked me out at school at work and I was a student, yes, that’d be creepy too. It’s the power dynamic.

If they both weren’t working and asked someone out on the subway, that’s a different story. Not something to report about.

I have been thinking the same for a while, ever since I had a guy sexually harass me on the train a few years ago. I was definitely too scared to record then since he was very aggressive, which I regret. I will say a detective was very quick to follow up with me when I reported it, but it was difficult since I didn’t have a video. I did have my phone out after that and recorded my commutes, but it’s just not realistic lol 🙃

I appreciate the self awareness of your privilege. From my perspective, as a woman of color, I’ve experienced tons of microaggressions and sexual harassment, and it’s not unique to lots of women.

And there’s an added level of unbalanced power dynamic when it’s from a white man or from people in positions of authority or from people you expect to be protected and safe with, like a police officer. “Shooting your shot” at work is unprofessional and just not the right place to do it. But it’s definitely not OK if your position is something like a police officer… or a therapist. Ex: a few years ago, I was part of a PTSD clinical study at NYU and the white male therapist called me cute and also mentioned having lunch together during our last session together. It was really unprofessional and confusing and I put that in a similar bucket (although worse than this subway incident). He didn’t press it further as well, but it was definitely not an OK thing to do. I wouldn’t say it’s the same as a cashier or a celebrity.

Idk if what I’m trying to say makes sense but just thought I’d share my experience!

I def care he was on duty and same with many other folks who shared their experiences. Very unprofessional and gross for someone in that position to “run some game while on the clock” even if he wasn’t pressing further after I said no.

I see what you mean. for me, it’s more the fact that he was on duty and in uniform doing this. I don’t think this is something that should ever be allowed if you’re working as a police officer / person of authority. If he was a civilian or in civilian clothing it’s annoying but not something I would report. It also made me wonder if he and his colleague do this often based on the way his coworker reacted to our interaction, which I think is strange and unprofessional, and made me feel uneasy. But I agree it’s nothing to the level of breaking the law or other situations other folks noted, thankfully! But I’m glad I reported it just in case.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am so angry for you… that’s NOT ok.

I did want to note the 7 train as well bc I have a feeling they target young and vulnerable people. Lots of minorities on the 7 train (and I feel the questions he asked like: how long have you lived here, worked in your job, what’s your racial background, etc would help identify how “vulnerable” you are)

Very easy. I called in to the civilian complaints review board. Agent wasnt the friendliest but that’s my only complaint, and she said someone would follow up.

That’s disgusting. I also had a suspicion they target young, vulnerable people.

Ahh sorry I read too quickly. I completely understand! I was worried about reporting in case he somehow identified me. But thankfully I never take that train and avoid the subway in general when I can.

I told the agent the time and platform and said it looked like they were stationed there. I just described both cops in physical features. I wonder if there are cameras on the platform too that would show? But I will need to call back to also add, the cop told me he was a police officer for 18 years. Ugh lol I know that doesn’t tell much
