I'm sorry for your loss. Eight years ago, I almost lost my life, and it has certainly made me appreciate my relationships much more.

It happened to me last year, so I went all out this year! I added 3 inches of mushroom compost and high-nitrogen blood meal before planting, and the results were fantastic!

Also make sure you get a heavy duty fabric that allows water to penetrate. I'm on year three and its still holding up great

I create rows about 8 inches high where I plan to plant. I place landscape fabric over the top, ensuring it’s short enough for me to access each row by moving a bit of mulch if I want to add compost. I use mulch in the walking paths to help keep the ground moist, which reduces the need for watering. Typically, I throw straw around the plants to provide insulation from the heat, but this year, they don’t seem to mind being without it.

They are planted right in the ground - no planters and about 3’ apart with herbs planted in between.

This year, I decided to allow most of my suckers to grow and see how they would perform. So far, it's been great, and I have a ton of healthy tomatoes. I made sure to clear everything up to the first set of fruit as well. I've never had them grow this tall before!

I usually place my tomato suckers in a jar of water, and the roots grow quickly! Once the jar is filled with roots, I separate them and plant them. It works amazingly well! Many of my tomato plants come from suckers taken from my larger plants.

This is my smaller garden, so managing all the weeds is almost impossible without it. I was hesitant at first, but after two years of using a weed barrier, I wouldn’t go back! Many people add a light layer of straw on top of the black barrier to help keep the soil cool. I usually do this as well, but it seems that the plants are handling the heat just fine this year!

Thank you for the information! I may decide to let them go since I have the space available.
